    This is really good news; looking forward to it. Just to mention the below if you can. These were the only issues I found; very minor :). It's been running perfectly apart from that - solid as a rock :thumbup:

    Not sure if you can extract the firmware from ddwrt to check what they have done differently to make it work, not so into all that stuff. But confident you can :D

    No need to hurry though, sure most can manage without

    What is changed in the WRT320N build Tomato RAF 1.28.8711? I used my WRT32N with the Tomato Firmware RAF1.28.8663 MIPSR2_RAF K26 USB Ext with my WRT32N. :) It works fine. USB I doesn't actived because the router doesn't have it. Must I erase the nvram before I flash to the WRT32N build?

    Any reason why the build 8655 (for RT-N16) was removed from the website ? I see 8654 seems to be the latest. Any problems with 8655 that we should be aware of ? I did not installed it yet but have downloaded it.

    Thanks.

    Why do you recommend 1.28.121006 for the WRT54GS v1, but 1.28.8617 for the WRT54GL? I'm very confused.

    I'm trying to figure out whether K2.4 or K2.6 is better for a core revision 9 WRT54GL.

    I followed the "any version" advice, :wink:. I haven't loaded new firmware in quite a while, just been too busy. Wanted to upgrade a WRT54G-TM. I was curious if 1.28.121006 which was recommended for WRT54GL 1.0/1.1 would work. Figured it would since AFAIK they're essentially the same except for RAM (32/16 respectively). It worked fine and is very snappy. Might be a waste though as the router which loaded it on is a Wireless Ethernet Bridge & not even on the WAN, :grin:, but it works fine.

    Sure, but then.. you lost USB features. I have an WL500gP v1 running 1.28.8622 and I got 50Mb WAN-LAN stable with cable connection (not tested with jperf yet to check full BW). The CPU in WL500gP v.x is running great for K2.6.

    Wireless Performance

    Currently using WRT54GL v1.1 flashed with Tomato RAF 1.28.121006. Victek - Would you expect there to be a noticeable difference in wireless performance between this version and your other firmware releases for this router?

  31. Victek

    Victek Network Guru Member

    Yes, it's a hugue difference related to compatibility with some wireless cards like Intel 2000b/g. The main advantage for this release is 80Mb WAN-LAN BW.

  32. adlerfra

    adlerfra LI Guru Member

    Since I have a Comcast 16/2 connection, maybe I don't need this release and would do better with another version that would improve wireless.

    I've got Tomato RAF 1.28.8515 ND on my WRT54G-TM now

    What is the difference between 8617 and 8631?

    Kernel is the same?
    Drivers?
    Features? (I know 8631 has VPN support and 8617 doesn't)

    Any other differences?

    Small issue but it seems if utorrent crashes i.e. doesn't close it's upnp port then that upnp entry remains in the table. I've got entries several weeks old that have not been cleaned. Build 1.28.8525, same one that have the xbox nat issues :(

  36. Badders44

    Badders44 LI Guru Member

    I changed from upnp for that very reason.

    For utorrent I use NAT-PNP only with the 'Cleaning Threshold' set to zero. This seems to work well and clear out entries eventually under normal use. I'll do some testing crashing utorrent though and report back.

  37. Azuse

    Azuse LI Guru Member

    You can't set utorrent to nat-pnp if the xbox won't work with nat-pnp enabled. You have to choose between the two :(

    Flashed my WRT54GL V1.1 with 1.28.8617. Measured wireless noise floor is 6 dB lower than when I was running with versions 121006 and 8515. (I always clear NVRAM after flashing). Also, noticed that the noise floor lowers by about 5 or 6 dB when the Interference Mitigation Setting is changed from "WLAN Manual" (default) to "WLAN Auto".

    Hello,

    i have 2 WRT-54GL.

    1.) WRT-54GL Tomato RAF 1.28.8617 (Internetrouter)

    Wireless
    Wireless Mode = Access Point + WDS
    SSID = samessid
    Channel = 3
    Security = WPA2 Personal
    Encryption = AES
    Shared Key = samesharedkey
    WDS = Link With
    MAC Address = 00:22:22:22:22:22 (the *wireless* MAC of the 2nd router)

    2.) WRT-54GL Tomato RAF 1.28.8617

    Wireless
    Wireless Mode = Access Point + WDS
    SSID = samessid
    Channel = 3
    Security = WPA2 Personal
    Encryption = AES
    Shared Key = samesharedkey
    WDS = Link With
    MAC Address = 00:22:22:22:22:52 (the *wireless* MAC of the 1nd router)

    One both i see under Device List:

    Interface MAC Address IP Address Name RSSI Quality TX/RX
    wds0.1 000:22:22:22:22:52
    [oui] [static] [wfilter] -39 dBm

    but they dont work.

    For testing both router are in the same room.

    What is the Problem?

    Thanks.

  41. Azuse

    Number 1 you should not be using a k26 build on those unless you have a specific reason too (and accept the performance issues). Use a k24 build

    Number 2, you've just copied the tomato faq. You shouldn't be using those macs, you should be using the mac of the routers (it actually says this in the brackets :rolleyes:). Use the wireless mac of the routers which is under status:eek:verview.

    You may need to enable stp. Not sure why, but wds sometimes won't work without it.

    When you first set auto mode, it will most likely be disabled. However the router will enable it if other routers are detected. For this reason you might see the noise floor change after a while.

    I disabled it on one of my routers with no issues. Another, older, one I seem to lose contact with it after a while if disabled so I set it back to auto. It always boots "auto but disabled" but before long changes to "auto and enabled".

    You can check the status from a telnet/ssh window or the tools->system command window on TomatoUSB or recent Victek RAF builds by doing a "wl interference" command.

    oh help..

    victek or anyone--

    i have a question regarding RAF1.28.121006 (christmas edition)

    i have a WRT54GL v1.1, and when I look at the settings Advanced->Misc it says that
    my CPU freq is 188, which seems underclocked to me. when i try to change it to
    200 it won't save.

    <<<EDIT: it does save in the Overview, just not in the Advanced->Misc drop down menu,
    is this a bug?>>>

    also where are all the themes? i only have USB red.

    i have cleared the NVRAM

    Thanks!!

  48. occamsrazor

    occamsrazor Network Guru Member

    I'm also getting 188, but on an E3000.

  49. camomac

    camomac Networkin' Nut Member

    from what i can tell it is a bug (glitch) because under Overview it shows what ever it
    as set and save it to. example, mine says 188, then i change it to 225 and hit save.
    under overview it shows 225, even though it still says 188 under advanced->misc.

    hopefully it will get fixed in the next revision. really it is just an annoyance.

  50. Victek

    Victek Network Guru Member

    Right, what it counts is the CPU speed showed in Overview page, the roll up windows is JUST to select the frequency you want to fix your speed CPU. It's not a bug, just a selector roll up window.

  51. camomac

    camomac Networkin' Nut Member

    victek-

    is there anyway to make this so it will stick on the next revision? even though it is
    not a bug, it is kind of misleading.

    also, thanks for all your hard work!!

  52. Victek

    Victek Network Guru Member

    Yes, it's not a problem to fix it as the actual CPU speed.

    Thanks!

  53. TexasFlood

    TexasFlood Network Guru Member

    I found it a bit confusing at well but figured it out. Perhaps a small label explaining it's only intended for changing the speed but doesn't reflect the current setting? That would have helped me anyway.

    At any rate, even a confusing drop-down is safer than an input box as it keeps you from doing something like setting 215MHz on a WRT54GL and bricking your router!

  54. camomac

    camomac Networkin' Nut Member

    yes i totally agree, i like the drop down box better. perhaps you could implement all the known speeds to overclock a linksys too. example

    I noticed a related issue on my new E3000. Status Overview reports CPU Frequency (MHz) 480, 240, 120. I understand from this post that is actually the "CPU Clock/Memory/Backplane Frequencies." Advanced > Miscellaneous > CPU Frequency reports 188. It occurs to me that were I to hit Save on that page for some reason (perhaps to enable Jumbo Frame support), I would inadvertently significantly underclock my E3000. Also, I have to wonder what the 188 setting would actually do with respect to the Memory and Backplane frequencies. For the E3000, shouldn't the drop down actually contain a list of 3 comma-separated values as described in the post I previously linked and use those to set all 3 frequencies?

  57. Victek

    Victek Network Guru Member

    Yes, could be, you can see the effect in the router log file aftr you reboot, the CPU frequency is showed in the log.

    Hi kadrex and igoreshka, new model for me (Rosewill) but if has been working with 1.28.8515 there is no problem working with 1.28.121006 .. I'm not sure about 1.28.8617 (due to wireless driver) but in any case will brick your router, simply try and choice the best coverage & stable version for your goal.

    Are you sure you have the same model? I couldn't get mine to work. It updated from within 1.28.8515, but I couldn't connect to the router after the reboot. It would give me random 169.254.111.xxx/255.255.0.0 IP addresses and no DHCP. I tried manually setting my IP as 192.168.1.100/255.255.255.0 with DHCP as 192.168.1.1 but no go. I then reinstalled the default rosewill firmware and tried to do the upgrade from there but it refused. In the end, back on 1.28.8515.

    Hello.
    1 comment:
    I loaded Tomato_RAF-K26-1.28.8617_MIPSR1_Std.zip onto a WRT54GL.
    The IP/MAC upload limit did not work. The download limit works as expected.
    With tomato.RAF-K24-1.28.8515_lite.trx.7z, both the upload and download limits work.

    1 question:
    Is it possible to add a netmask field to the IP/MAC BW QoS limit page, thus enabling a range (subnet) of IPs to be subject to the same bandwidth rule?

    thanks much!

  68. Victek

    Victek Network Guru Member

    Yes, it's posible to add a netmask, and you are right about the bug in the upload with K2.6 version, is related to IMQ. Both functions will work & add in the next release. Here is the evidence after patch it. (Thank you to shibby20 for working on it).

    Great!
    Fastest feature add ever!

    Reason I was even trying the K26 version is that I was going to go buy a Linksys/Cisco e2000 and that requires K26? (although the MIPSR2 version)

    I need/want a N router, with a couple of gig-ports. Is the e2000 a favorite or is there something else people are loving?

    thanks again!

    http://tomatousb.org/forum/t-303285/linksys-e4200-support

    with his firmware everything works ok, only without 5GHz, due to the lack of the new broadcom drivers. He provide some info about how he managed to do that. Is there a possibility to flash a Victek build to this machine? Or, are You Vic going to incorporate the changes jefbarn has made and release Your own version? I dont really care about the 5GHz and probably im not the only one. First impressions from tomatousb users are very encouraging :)

    Vic, will you by any chance be adding a CPU frequency selctor to th RT-N16 MIPS2 builds? I just bought an RT-N16, and I must say it is great, working well. I know I can manually change clkfreq, but it would be nice to be able to do it in the GUI. THanks!

    which release for WRT54G (v2.0)

    hello,

    i just switched form dd-wrt to tomato (std. v1.28) and was very psoitively surprised. with other fw's it was not possible to connect to my ISP via PPTP (WAN). but unfortunately now i see a lmitation of apprx. 5,4MBit downstream (directly connected to the ISP-modm i get the whole 8MBit). i looked at the output of "top" and realized, that process "pptp" always consumes very much CPU exactly when downloading a file or making a speedtest via a providers test-html-page:

    Code:
    Load average: 0.47 0.21 0.08 3/27 360
      PID PPID USER STAT VSZ %MEM %CPU COMMAND
       69    68 root     R      688   5%  82% pptp
      358   356 root     R     1952  13%   1% top
      355    77 root     S     1600  11%   0% dropbear -p 22
      356   355 root     S     1972  14%   0% -sh
    so maybe the old WRT54G's overall performance is that bad - maybe overclocking could help. i looked at Victek webpage (http://victek.is-a-geek.com/tomato.html) and wasn't able to figure out, if my router would work supported with "Tomato RAF".

    here some details concerning the WRT54G(v2.0):

    Code:
    # nvram show | grep -i wl0_corerev
    wl0_corerev=7

    ** is it possible to run "Tomato RAF 1.28.8515 ND. (Standard version)" on my device or which one would be appropriate?

    ** maybe there's another hint/solution to get more bandwidth with my old WRT54G?

    thanks in advance for any pursuing hint!

    ps: sorry for possibly being OT!

    Sure, I'm working to do it but in a different way I did in previous version. No problem

    I have been using that version on same hardware, for an AP. This week, my main router went out. So, I switched enabled the wan port, entered my port forwarding needs, worked with the QOS, and had the very pleasant surprise that its going very fast.
    For the most part the QOS works well; however, I can't seem to get it to work for vonage.
    The vonage adapter occasionally re-sets itself to defaults, and thus dynamic ip. I've not been able to get QOS to work with MAC addresses; however, when I restore the fixed IP to the vonage adapter, then everything works as expected with IP based QOS.

    I've just noticed the wireless range. Now, that's amazing.
    Its set to 84mw to avoid wifi drop, but not higher, due to throughput.
    The new firmware has allowed me to increase this figure, up from 62mw, without stability caveats. But, the rest of the way had to be done with antennas. . .
    Using one (1 or 2) of these: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320720615244 along with a RP-TNC to RP-SMA adapter, it can cover an area approximately the size of a football field, despite being located in the house. A 17" tall vertical collinear array at a fast food price? Well, yes. Its an indoor model. Extra power didn't help the wifi phones at all. But the extra big antenna sure does. I'd like to know of other accessory antennas, especially TNC, that are significantly more effective than the linksys +7.
    However, I'd used this 17" antenna on edimax/tplink in the past, so just popped on the adapter for linksys and was kind of stunned by the range. EDIT: I had some saved over (hoarded) and just used them. :)
