Hi all, Nice mod. Thanks for this good job. I would like to know what is the difference between 1.23.8025 (wl0_corerev) < 9 and 1.23.8510 ND (wl0_corerev) => 9 . I mean What 1.23.8025 have more, or less, than 1.23.8510 ?

    Thanks

    Vic,
Did you get my latest fix for that from v12 (router/httpd/wl.c)? If you did, then it's possible that the workaround only works on some routers (like my Asus) but not on the others (i.e. Buffalo). In that case we'll need someone to experiment with wl utility on Buffalo to find the new voodoo sequence needed :)...

Noise floor mesure works on my Buffalo but after i lost half the quality according to tomato GUI (from 90+ to 40-) to my wireless client even if i wait 2/3 minutes but it's not cutting the wireless connexion.

Is there a way to change the name of imq? I guess i remembered a screenshot where they were change.

Thanks Peyton, so, we need to know the affected model..., WRT54GL works Ok as I showed.

About IMQ, yes, when the IP is fixed into the DHCP static list then the IMQxx shows the IP UID name.

  5. peyton

    peyton LI Guru Member

It also works well on a WRT54GL 1.1.

What do i have to put exactly ? I put

    modprobe imq
    modprobe ipt_IMQ

Because in static dhcp i've got
And even if i reboot it stays imq2.

    Peyton try this:

    Code:
    modprobe imq
    modprobe ipt_IMQ
ip link set imq0 up name Mickey
    iptables -t mangle -A PREROUTING -s 192.168.1.10 -j IMQ --todev 0
    iptables -t mangle -A POSTROUTING -d 192.168.1.10 -j IMQ --todev 0

    ND

Victek I already have ND Tomato version installed on WRT54GS V2 with wl0_corerev 7 and I want to try yours but in your web page you recommend to install regular version and not ND version with wl0_corerev 7... I'm little confused...
    Thanks

mikele , no confusion, < wl0_corerev 9 you should use regular version, => wl0_corerev 9 you can use ND release, it's what many post in this forum says, you have the option but the rules are clear. ;)

    U welcome

"you should use regular version" do some research (google) but if its <9 there aren't any real benefits if I recall.

Wireless driver, IMQ and miniupnp in favour of the 8510 cause is a newer build. All the other features are common for both releases.

I told you, I already have ND version and have 50% gain, router is 10 to 100% more fast ( transfer rate between devices ) this is why I'm confused when I see that I must install regular version with old slow wireless drivers...

Thanks for the mod. It's really nice. I seem to have a problem though with the IMQ stuff.

This is in the FireWall Script section:

    Code:
    modprobe imq
    modprobe ipt_IMQ
ip link set imq0 up name NoFiXPC
    iptables -t mangle -A PREROUTING -s 192.168.1.100 -j IMQ --todev 0
    iptables -t mangle -A POSTROUTING -d 192.168.1.100 -j IMQ --todev 0
ip link set imq1 up name BillPC
    iptables -t mangle -A PREROUTING -s 192.168.1.142 -j IMQ --todev 1
    iptables -t mangle -A POSTROUTING -d 192.168.1.142 -j IMQ --todev 1
ip link set imq2 up name Chumby
    iptables -t mangle -A PREROUTING -s 192.168.1.114 -j IMQ --todev 2
    iptables -t mangle -A POSTROUTING -d 192.168.1.114 -j IMQ --todev 2
ip link set imq3 up name PSP
    iptables -t mangle -A PREROUTING -s 192.168.1.124 -j IMQ --todev 3
    iptables -t mangle -A POSTROUTING -d 192.168.1.124 -j IMQ --todev 3
ip link set imq4 up name JenniferPC
    iptables -t mangle -A PREROUTING -s 192.168.1.133 -j IMQ --todev 4
    iptables -t mangle -A POSTROUTING -d 192.168.1.133 -j IMQ --todev 4
For some reason NoFiXPC is showing the same bandwidth usage as BillPC. Am I doing this right?

    Thanks!

    Hello again, Victek! :)

Well, the blinking power LED came back again. :( The weirdness came back as soon as I power-cycled my WRT54GS v.1.1 & WRT54GL v1.1

    I did some trouble shooting:

    1. Cleared NVRAM.
    2. downgraded to Tomato_RAF_1.23.8505ND.
    3. Cleared NVRAM
    4. Power-cycled the router. All LEDs are normal Power LED is steady.
    5. Upgraded to Tomato_RAF_1.23.8510ND.
    6. Cleared NVRAM
    7. Power-cycled the router; Power LED remains blinking; all other LEDs are normal. I can connect to the router and the internet.

Note: All settings are in default. I did not change any configuration at all right after each upgrade/downgrade. Tried to re-download the firmware from your site. The same result. I have done this 5 times. The same result.

Right now, I downgraded back to Tomato_RAF_1.23.8505ND. With default and my preffered settings, all is well. Power LED stays steady.

The blinking power LED in firmware Tomato_RAF_1.23.8510ND happens only when the router is power-cycled. Even if the NVRAM is cleared, the same thing happens.

I would appreciate if someone can also confirm this. Thanks :)

Well, I waited a couple of days before definitively confirming that to you : I run your 8510ND mod without problem with WRT54G V2 and WRT54GS V2 with core_dev 7. I don't have any problem as I told you before, like the Tomato ND (original) I can see 10% to 100% transfer rate gain between device. I will test with my playstation 3. I hope this help other WRT54G V2 /WRT54GS V2 with core_dev 7 owner's who want to try this mod.
    Best regards
PS: I would like to know more about overclocking, if you know good websites to learn more...
    ***UDPATED***
Victek mod have 10% transfer rate slower than ND Tomato Original (between devices) here

Unfortunately I'm reading many problems using Teddy_Bear mod for WRT54GL, he had no chance to test in other router except ASUS WL520GU. The same happens to me I can't check in Buffalo router, so I'll go back and will implement wireless fix for Intel 2200 b/g in my former ND release. :)

    I just omitted these lines

ip link set imq0 up name NoFiXPC
    iptables -t mangle -A PREROUTING -s 192.168.1.100 -j IMQ --todev 0
    iptables -t mangle -A POSTROUTING -d 192.168.1.100 -j IMQ --todev 0

    and started at

ip link set imq1 up name NoFiXPC
    iptables -t mangle -A PREROUTING -s 192.168.1.100 -j IMQ --todev 1
    iptables -t mangle -A POSTROUTING -d 192.168.1.100 -j IMQ --todev 1

and looks that that fixed the problem...

    thanks all for contributing.... :)

    Guys,
If you have the blinking LED problem, could you please post your router model and the output of the following command:
    Code:
    nvram show | grep wl0gpio
Also, you may try these commands:
    Code:
    nvram set wl0_leddc=
    nvram set wl_leddc=
    nvram commit
    reboot
I do not know if it can fix the blinking, but if you try, please post the results here.

    My mistake.
I dismantle my router yesterday to adjust the plastik for a bigger antenna and a plastik was pushing down the EOSS button and as i made a hard reset on it i believed it was the firmware.

I guess there's no blinking problem on the Buffalo.
Only my adblock script is still not working since ND.

    Hello , Great mod !

Just one question , in the latest mod the DMZ function dont work here .
And in the 22.8010 mod the ip/mac limiter dont work for me ?
Is that a known prob ?
Or am i overlooking something easy ?
I have made static ip's for all here .
    TIA

DMZ works, pls test you PC IP.
Yes, IP/MAC limiter was not working in the previous version, we are now in 1.23 RAF release... Gotcha?
In any case.. if you are using static IP's out of the DHCP range will be difficult to limit something that is out of control by the DHCP static IP feature of Tomato...

Yes, this happened to me. For the likes of me now I can't remember how I fixed it. I also had the same thing with "slave" routers in wds mode. IP limiter is stopping work every day.

    Hi,

I'm using a Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 running RAF v1.23.8025. My network have 8 clients.
I set each client to 80% of bandwidth. Everything works fine when I click save. After some time running (normally, the day after), all client can use 100% of connection again (the limiter isn't working anymore).
When stops work, don't make much difference change a client's limit and click save. I can limit to 5% and the client can use 100%... The 2 ways to make work again is: 1. reboot the router; or 2. disable ip limiter, save, enable, save.

I did try a full restore and reconfigure from scratch, but the same problem happens. I can't found anything at log related with the problem. I also tried change the router for a WRT54GS (v.2), and the same happens.
I don't have anything enabled from original QoS.

Anybody has experiment a similar problem? Any work around?

    Regards.

I recommend you do not make a restore of the previous configuration, please configure from scratch since the change or upgrade from version to version creates some confusion to the router.

Okay, so i got 1.23.8510ND up and working - thx Vic for increasing imq number, i'm now happily monitoring all 6 of my PCs.

Thing is, i cant get rid of all the interfaces i don't want to monitor in bandwidth realtime. Now besides good ol pppoe to vlan1 i got all 16 of imq interfaces. So i tried to get rid of them thru Administration/Bandwidth monitoring/Excluded interfaces. I can fit only few of them since form can take only 64 characters (Where do i change this? In NVRAM?). Any way around this or ?

Basically i would only like to have pppoe and imq2, imq3...imq7 in realtime. Any other way to do this?

P.S. This one is rock solid Vic, been testing New Drivers - i'll post some benchmarks in few days (if you guys are interested, ofcourse)

Have a few strange issues with lights in this version...

    I flashed 8510ND on a WRT54GL >9. No problems. However...

The SES light refuses to light up amber, white or whatever regardless of setting. I have this router's access restriction set to disable wireless during certain periods of time. When the wireless access restriction triggers, the WLAN light goes out. When it comes back, the light stays out even when the wireless re-activates.

I did an NVRAM erase and restart before and after the upgrade.

I flashed 8511 and is working fine except one problem: DNS forwarder stops working after a while. Direct IP requests are still working but WWW is not. I have disabled DNS forwarder and it helped (so far).

No problems with new WiFi drivers. They connect even to my very incompatible TPLINK AP (it didn't connect to previous ND drivers, even with "Intel fix").

Vic, can i flash 1.23.8511 over 1.23.8510 without erasing nvram...? I do it every upgrade anyways but since this is only a patch...

P.S. about crowded realtime bandwidth graphing - i took care of that by adding this

    Code:
    nvram set rstats_exclude=imq0,imq1,imq8,imq9,imq10,imq11,imq12,imq13,imq14,imq15,br0,eth0,eth1,vlan0,vlan1

in Administration > Scripts > Init and sent Gizmo for a reboot

Someone else might want to change imq's to suit their own needs

It will poke nvram every time ut reboots, i know, but well - this one only reboots for upgrades. ;)

There is a threshold before cleaning takes effect, cleaning will occur if more than 20 unused rules in the list. There is a new entry in the NVRAM for the threshold.

is set to 20, just change, commit and that's all ;), I thought you was having large queue...

Thank you masked stranger. I shall detail you on my results.

EDIT: Is it supposed to close ALL the ports up? Active torrent ports get closed out.

i have flash 8510ND to both of the WRT54G v2.2 & wl500gp. noticed that the wireless signal is weaker and got 2 signal bar only.

I recommend you to flash 8511 for some buttons bugs in WRT54GL. Regarding signal strength .. check first if your wl revision core is suitable to work with this version. The performance of 4.150.10.5 wireless driver is by far much better than previous ones. Don't forget to erase nvram after upgrade.

When trying to add a comp to the bw monitoring I got this:
The field "new_qoslimit_obw" is invalid. Please report this problem.

Also, I'm having trouble figuring out how to get per-ip bandwidth graphs in your 1.23 victec (old drivers). I erased NVRAM after the flash. Isn't there a way to do this without depending on putty/iptables and blobs of text? I like graphs and I know someone had this working on some version :)

I think that UPnP has some trouble in identifying which ports are 100% no longer in use. If it deletes too quickly, it has a good chance of deleting ports which are open but haven't been in use for some time. That's the reason for the selectable time period. I set mine for at least a few hours. Next, the threshold, is leaving ports alone until the list becomes too large ... between them, hopefully used but dormant ports won't be deleted.

Take a look at this for the bandwidth graphs:

Exactly! But I don't see it as a problem - it's a matter of understanding what cleaning interval is. It's not only how often the cleaning process runs, it's also how long the port should have no traffic to be considered "inactive".

When miniupnpd checks for inactive rules, it compares the usage stats to what it was the last time the cleaning process ran. If there was no new traffic, it deletes the rule. So if you set the interval to 5 secs, the port will be closed if there was no activity on it within the last 5 secs.

I think in most cases the default interval of 10 minutes with 20 rules threshold makes sense. But as always YMMV...

24h with 1.23.8512 and no problems. My problem is gone since I disabled IPv6 in my Windows.

I'm totally confused on this. :frown:

I thought the cleaning interval was just how many seconds upnp would check for "dead ports" (ie. no traffic) and just close the dead ones. This threshhold stuff got me confused haha. So whatever, I put a 4 rule test to see what would happen. I was thinking if it meets that threshhold THEN it would check for dead connections, but, no, it just shut off all the rules haha.

Is the threshhold equivalent to the "NUKE 'EM" red button we see in so many cartoons?

I have an issue with 1.23.8511ND victek mod. After upgrading my WRT54GL from 1.23.8505ND i can not connect to router with cable (neither static ip nor dhcp, dhcp shows limited connectivity), only via wireless. Any way to solve it ? And yes i cleared my nvram after upgrading.

Update: when i enable ethernet interface on my pc it show's up under device list and log shows that:
    Code:

And after a while windows show that interface have limited connectivity. Happened the same with Ubuntu and XP. Help please, i even can't downgrade to older version becouse of this.

After playing around a bit and restarting router several times i manged to get ip from dhcp. But web interface isnt reachable. I can only telnet to the router but still if i try to ping the router i get about 50% packet loss.

Should i try to put all my radio items away and downgrade firmware wirelessly ?
BTW can i do the same as with dd-wrt http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Installation#Flashing_with_Command_Line ?

Update 2: Well i managed to downgrade to the linksys stock firmware wirelessly and it seems that it's a router hardware fault, sometimes it gets ip address, sometimes it don't, sometimes ssid shows up on wireless network list sometimes it don't. I think it's time for this little baby to go to the warranty centre or maybe there is a way to recover it ?

Spicoli, do you mean that the cleaning process is closing ports which are most definitely still open? Maybe we misunderstood you.

    A question ..

I'm not really a power user of MSN messenger, but mine is always monitoring. My question is, is there a "keep-alive" process active, or will the UPnP rule be deleted prematurely. Anyone know?

  88. spicoli

    spicoli LI Guru Member

Yes, its closing all my upnp ports. I almost always have at least 2 programs using upnp on my network all the time, and one I can get control over. I could say, keep that program open and using bandwidth but upnp does not discriminate and closed them all haha. So I just opened my program and closed it so it would open the upnp ports. Still closed them both. Granted they weren't using too much bandwidth but they were active. Although, one time I did see just one rule get cleaned, but I probably clicked on the X and didn't realize it. I will probably do more tests and see whats up with the threshold rule.

I'm trying to simulate what you explain.. and you're correct, sometimes it's closed, sometimes it remains opened.. something is wrong in my integration of miniupnpd from main repository of Teddy_Bear ... just checking now.

    Thanks! :)

    Victek,
The current tomato-miniupnpd branch in the repository contains some untested changes that might cause issues (or not :) ).
So I'd recommend to get the code up to this commit only for now (ignore last 3 commits) if you are building a new release. Or wait a day or 2 until Toastman tests it :)...

I think I've got the bandwidth graph thing under control now.

Just one more question. Why does TX=RX? Is there a known cause of this? Victec said it was normal earlier but that was it. I thought I remembered them staying different in tomato.

Victek, could you make build with 4.158.4.0 drivers as TeddyBear did? :)

Davka, is any problem with wl 4.150.10.5 driver or just a wish to have the last release? I think there is no issues with 4.150.10.5 driver and my thinking is to build it for next official release. I'm sure Jon will implement too :)

Hi there. is there anyway to name the IMQs in the bandwidth monitoring page? Thanks :)

    example:

#ip link set imq4 up name Lieu
    #iptables -t mangle -A PREROUTING -s 192.168.1.165 -j IMQ --todev 4
    #iptables -t mangle -A POSTROUTING -d 192.168.1.165 -j IMQ --todev 4

    Hey Victek,

Any chance to add the igmpproxy of DD-W** to ur tomato mod so we can watch multicasted iptv in germany?

I think i am not the only one in germany who would like to stay with tomato but also want to watch iptv (even if it really sucks :/).
