I have two networks at two different locations and want to connect them with VLAN. My goal is for the computers at one network to behave as if they are physically located in the same location as the other.

I have never done this before and could use some help. Can anyone give me some instruction on this? The more detail the better!

From the comparison chart at http://www.linksysinfo.org/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=31 it looks as if every firmware but hyperWRT supports this. Is that correct? Would anyone suggest one over the other for this?

Thanks for the assistance on this! I am glad I found this forum too, it has been a big help!

why the need for vlans? sounds to me like you just need to bridge the two networks.

OK...how to I bridge these two over the internet? Can this be done with the WRT54G with modded firmware?

oh, i see the situation now, i had thought you were talking about two lans that were close enough to use wifi to link them.
probably what you need in this situation is a vpn of some sort. i myself use openvpn to link my home network with my work network. openvpn can run on standard pcs (linux or windows) or with certain firmwares can run on a WRT54G.

Can anyone give a sort of primer on setting up openVPN on a WRT54G and linking two networks? I haven't worked with VPN before.
