VLAN trunk across WDS bridge?

I'm trying to use some WRT54Gs and WHR-HP-G54s to construct a WDS-based wireless bridge (transparent) that will allow 802.1Q VLAN tagged traffic. Every link I've tried happily passes the untagged packets but won't send the tagged packets. Does anyone know of a firmware / configuration combination that will work for this?

You might try WET or Client Bridge mode. I have no experience of tagged VLANs myself, but WDS is a bit picky at times. If you don't have wireless clients on either side of the bridge, and/or other WDS points involved, WET/ClBridge might be the better link anyway.
