VoIP - signal loss

I've got a version 1.0 wrt54gs router and the sveasoft satori firmware, with the packet8 voip box set with a static IP address. However, very often when i'm on the phone, i will be able to hear the other person, but they can not hear me. This is quite annoying and am wondering if it is my firmware, my box or just the packet8 service. Suggestions? I was thinking about switching to either dd-wrt or hyperWRT.

try the voip directly to the modem for a while see if the issue re-occurs without the router...
do you haev to be using the internet at the time for the issue to occur?
who is your ISP, what is your up/downstream cap?

my isp is cox cable, and i've got the highest possible residential cable (4mbps). I don't know what the upstream cap is, though.

have you tried the voip directly to the modem?
does it matter if your using the internet at the time?
