VPN access while switching WRT54G and WAP54G

I just set up a WAP54G in repeater mode to a WRT54G in order to get full coverage in my house. I used a different SSID so that I could tell which network I was on and their relative strengths in different areas of the house.

The problem is that much of the time I am connected to a VPN and accessing my company's network, and if I move around the house, I have to manually choose which network I want to use and then re-establish my VPN connection if I change networks.

There are 2 things that I would like to solve:

    1. I would like my notebook adapter (WPC54G) to switch automatically to the network with the strongest signal.

    2. I don't want to re-login to my VPN every time I bring my notebook to a different part of the house (i.e. changing access points)

I do use WEP encryption and they are set the same passphrase. If I make the SSID on both units identical, can I accomplish the goals above? Or is there some other way to address this?

Thanks in advance for you help!

Yes, set the SSID on both devices to the same thing to solve your problems.
