I really want to set up a VPN server, i have one desktop connected to the internet throught the WRT54GS router and the dsl modem, and a notebook connected wireless. I want to be able to access this small network from anywhere throught a VPN Client. how can a configure this? with windows or my router? or both

well, i've seen that with the firmware of NETGEAR DG834 you can create VPN server. Why is't there a firmware for Linksys WRT54GS that can do that?

I would imagine that would cause sales of the WRV and RV series routers to drop. :D I wouldn't have purchased the WRV myself if the WRT54GS had VPN server capabilities. I really wish it did. lol

So you can make a vpn-server out of the NETGEAR DG834G? How? Or do you mean passing pptp through the router to a internal server?

With NETGEAR you can create either a VPN Gateway or a VPN client, then why buy a WRT or a more expensive WRV when i can buy a NETGEAR and do everything?

VPN Gateway isn't a VPN-Server. WRT has a build in VPN-Server while using a non standard firmware like alchemy, talisman, openwrt or dd-wrt. I'm using a Netgear 834G at work and the wrt at home. Well, my wrt is much better then the Netgear.

Set up a VPN server on one of your machines, PPTP or something and just forward that port to that computer (1723)
