Does anyone know if there is a directory caching option in vsftpd? I checked out their FAQs/Readmes link and couldn't find anything (maybe I was searching for the wrong term?)

I ask b/c I have >400 directories in a backup folder on a usb hard drive and when I perform a directory listing it takes so long to respond filezilla actually thinks the connection is lost... I also see the cpu load exceed 4.5 (1m average) while this is happening.

Ideas, or alternate ftp server that might support this?
