    Hello
I have done rebuild of WAG200G-EU Annex A software - my version has sshd, telnetd, writable flash partition, enhanced busybox build with many unix utilites included. I would like to release it to the public, but first I would like do do some testing with one or two persons willing to flash this version to their routers and confirming that everything is OK. If there are persons willing to test this modified firmware, please mail me wag200@gmail.com
    thanks

Hi, I wrote you an email at the address above but you didn't answer.. I'd like to have some information about how did you modify the firmware (ex: did you compile a new image with the build.sh script and uploaded it with the web interface or did you update the firmware by uploading the kernel and the filesystem separately, maybe via adam2 ftp?), because I'd like to start playing with it too :)
  3. woytekm New Member

    Hello
My rebuild of the software (version 0.3.1) and all of the information is avaliable at the following webpage: http://woytekm.googlepages.com/linksyswag200g-eu

I have used build.sh with a modified sources of linksys GPL release to create system image, and supplied montavista gcc to compile additional binaries. Sorry for not answering Your email - unfortunately i have very little time for this project now and I haven't checked the wag200 mailbox lately. Feel free to mail me if you have some specific questions - I'll try to answer as quickly as I can.

I've have an WAG200G, wondering if I could make a request? A scheduled reconnect (or reboot) function similar to what I've read the DD-WRT firmware does.

For example somewhere in the web-based router configuration, there would be an option for scheduling different (at least two or more) reconnect (or reboot) times.

Let me know if it's possible.
  6. wingy New Member

when does the version 0.5 is coming out? I am interested in the advanced firewall features.
    cheers
  7. Fattal New Member

    Very nice job :D

    Some questions:

    - could you please also publish the img files in a rar/zip because of the md5 (XP adds some info to store the 'Are you damn sure to open a downloaded file' warning which will destroy the md5)

    - I'm livin in a student house with 10 people with a 20 mbit line, there is some support for Quality of Serice but just 3 custom ports to add, how can i add some more, much better would be abillity to add a complete ip to have priority

    Already tnx for your support

Please keep on going with this firmware ;)

  12. wingy New Member

are there any other firmwares (tomato etc) for the wag200g?
  13. Neosk8 New Member

v1.01.03 still sucks...same remote management problem....etc etc... best version for now, and the most stable is the 1.00.9...no questions about it...
  14. wingy New Member

what problems do you face with remote managment. I don't have any problems using it so far

    hi, I tested firmware.
there was one problem with rfc 1483 bridged,
you dont get a gateway adress asigned dynamically
(with all stock versions you do)

for the rest everything worked fine!

    Hi:

I'm actually pretty keen to test out this firmware - I'm wondering will it fix my ADSL reconnect problem... (http://www.linksysinfo.org/forums/showthread.php?t=52789)..?

Also I'm from Wellington, New Zealand (also uses WAG200G-AnnexA ADSL over POTS), and am wondering if it's OK to load and try this firmware..i.e. will it break my WAG200G and render it unserviceable..? I understand there's smome slight diff in RAM and FLASH sizes between the EU and AU/NZ versions (I think AU version has only 4MB of RAM vs 16MB for EU)..

    Anyone has any ideas..?

    Thanks.
  19. santinod New Member

It will not. However, it will be easy to set up a workaround. I'm thinking of a script in endless loop which tests the Internet connection (for example by pinging some known host) and, upon failure, kills the pppd process (which after a while will get relaunched by atm_monitor, hopefully re-establishing the link).
  20. Fattal New Member

Its stable but with RFC 1483 Bridged can obtain a default gateway automatically which i can with the origional one. For the rest its stable as it should be :D

    Hi:

Can you or anyone elaborate a little bit on how to get static DHCP to work..? I've tried it but can't seem to get it to work. I tried enabling the mtd5 filesystem as intructed, but everytime I go to the static DHCP is says can find the /mnt/mtd5/udhcpd.statics file ...

    Thanks.

    hello

I have a problem, since I changed my internet connection from Annex A to Annex M, my connection disconnects very often.

i have a question, is it possible to make a firmware for wag200g to work for Annex M ?

If not, because of the Hardware???
  34. tinnef New Member

Is there a solution or workaround for the rfc 1483 bridged issue?
  35. ItalianJob New Member

    From the readme :
1 - You must enable automounting of the filesystem from the "MySetup" webpage of the router. And then reboot.
2 - Open ssh or telnet to the router, log in, and issue a "make_mtd5" command. And reboot.
3- Now you can use the GUI to enter MAC address <=> IP.
The GUI will create the /mnt/mtd5/udhcpd.statics file automaticaly.
  36. mstombs Network Guru

The WAG200G uses the Ti AR7 chipset, for which the version 6 or 7 DSP drivers do appear to support Annex M. I guess this firmware uses version 6.02, but other AR7 devices ie Linksys WAG54GV3 now contain version 7.02.03 and Acorp beta firmware now up to version 7.04 (which I can 'borrow' for experimentation with my ADSL2MUE).

Note the web interface may not know about Annex M, but in multimode the driver should select it if it is available. If your upstream is greater than 1Mb then you must be in Annex M.

The same family chipset is used in the AG241 see other posts here - a custom version of software was built 'down under' to allow selection of Annex M by web screen.

Then use the root login with the WWW password.

    PPPoE error with all firmware

Hi! I post my problem here, in case I find someone expert in this gateway.

So I flashed my WAG200G with 0.7a woytek firmware (after trying several official versions) and I still cannot connect to adsl using the gateways pppoe client. VCI/VPI settings, username, etc. are all fine, because in Bridge Mode only it works az a modem and I can use WinXP's pppoe to connect to my ISP.

    In the log I have:
    Code:
    Sun, 2002-09-08 12:26:22 - Connecting PPPoE socket: 00:00:00:00:00:00 0000 0x1000d388

I don't have any idea what to try.
    Please, help me...

01.01.07a fails to receive gateway through DHCP

I have tried the latest version of this custom build with a danish ISP, TDC.

The modem connects fine, and it receives the IP address, but gateway is missing from the DHCP information. I try to release and renew, and it is still missing an gateway, and if i choose to run with manually entered ip, it works for one hour, then the ISP release the DHCP assigned ip, and i have to renew the ip and manually enter all details again.

I have installed the official 01.01.06 again, as this firmware does not work for me with modem and dhcp assigned info.

Keep up the work. I will be watching for an update and verify if it works, when its released.

    btw,
    modem config details are
RFC 1483 Bridged, LLC, UBR, VPI/VCI 0/101 , auto IP from dhcp.
  63. yuzz Guest

Hi! I'm having the exact same problem, although my WAG200G is an Annex B. I tried woytek build 0.6.2a and 0.7 and with both the gateway is missing. After flashing the device back with official Linksys firmware (1.01.05) all works fine again...

My modem config details are: RFC 1483 Bridged, LLC, UBR, VPI/VCI 0/34, auto IP from dhcp.
  64. ItalianJob New Member

Maybe try another modulation setting, not auto.

I also have successfully installed build 0.7 on my Annex A modem. When I discovered that the WAG200G had no DHCP IP reservation by default, I thought I had bought a piece of worthless hardware. But this custom firmware saved the day! :thumbups:
I'm also awaiting build 0.8, keep up the good work!
  69. grol New Member

    Hi Everyone,

I got mine less than a week ago but already love it compared to my slow and buggy dlink

Like DrLex I was desperate to get static DHCP capabilities and updated the firmware to 1.01.05-woytekm07. I've gone through the process of setting up the filesystem and it mounts fine each time the router is restarted. However, the file /mnt/mtd5/udhcpd.static disappears every time I reboot the router. Before reboot I use ssh to check that the file consists of strings of the form
    Code:
    static_lease xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx 192.168.1.x #comment
After reboot the file's gone :frown:
  70. mstombs Network Guru

After checking the data is there try a "umount /mnt/mtd5" to unmount the mtd5 before rebooting. Linux also has a "sync" command which you may not have or it may not work - it may be the flash file system doesn't get written/closed quick enough when rebooting. We have the same problem on Routertech firmware with a minix nvram partition.
  71. grol New Member

Unmounting the partition before rebooting did actually help. Thank you for your input, mstombs!

I'm experiencing some problems with my WAG200G. I have changed my 8MB ADSL line to 24MB and since then I'm not able to connect with this router. At DSL Connection tab I get either downstream and upstream rate at 0kb so I guess this router it's not compatible with my 24mb line. I've upgraded to firmware to 1.01.05-woytekm07 to see if it works. Does anyone had the same problem? I haven't see the no-ip ddns options.

    QoS

The standard firmware has a QoS feature, but it's very limited and after doing some tests I wonder if it even works at all (but maybe I just don't understand what it's supposed to do). It's only possible to set priorities for some standard services (HTTP, FTP, ...) and 3 custom ports. It's unclear whether this works on outgoing or incoming traffic only, or both. Also, when I enter a custom port, is this TCP, UDP or both?

This feature would become much more useful if it would look like this:
    • A default QoS level can be set for all unspecified traffic.
    • Port ranges can be specified.
    • Much, much more custom fields are available, and for each field, there is a checkbox for incoming/outgoing and TCP/UDP.
    • There is a built-in detector for certain types of traffic like Bittorrent (just using ports may not be enough for that), and this is added as another fixed option.

Given the fact that upload is only a fraction of the total bandwidth on most DSL lines, it would be tremendously useful to be able to tag bittorrent upload as low priority. Outgoing BT packets should yield to other traffic or even be dropped when necessary. This would make it possible to play or host games without constantly having to throttle transfer rates and ask the same people over and over again to stop polluting the network.

WAG200G 0.8 rebuild is now avaliable for download here
  77. AnyKey01 Guest

I installed WAG200G 0.8 rebuild and it works fine.
I also compiled my own version with some modifications from the original Linksys source.
Now I would like to add the changes I made to the things woytekm has already included. I found a link to the source code here in the forum, however you have to register first and the language used there is not known to me.

Has anyone got an idea where to get the woytekm source apart from there?
  78. DrLex New Member

The language is Polish and I managed to register by using an online Polish dictionary and some guessing. However, the source code I found there appears to be a few versions old (0.6.2). I think you'll have to ask Woytekm himself for the latest version.

When my torrent(uTorrent) client is working upload is as it should be, but download is about two times smaller than on official firmware. Hello
The problem with www seems to be caused by some combination of previous firmware version and it's settings - probably using different language version than english.

Questions to people having "no www" issue: which firmware version and which laguage option have you used before installing woytekm rebuild ? What country are you from and which exact version of WAG200 are you using ? (I have WAG200G-EU ).

I've posted info on how to manually bring up the http server if you have working telnet/ssh:

Just posting to say thanks woytekm!

I am currently using your custom firmware (v 0.8) on my Linksys WAG200G-AU router (This is an ADSL over POTS or ANNEX A Router).

I am using the WAG200G_V1.01.06.wm-build-0.8-A.img.zip file from the sourcefourge repository.

Everything is working absolutely fine - I can access the MySetup page through both http and https. Static DHCP leases works flawlessly!

    Hi Woytekm:

Any ETA on when your version 0.9 is going to be ready? I do use the VPN feature quite a bit, and hence 0.8 won't work for me.

    Thanks.
  95. XantaxNZ New Member

Hrmm, something I have just noticed.

I received a free Thompson TG585v7 router from my ISP. I thought hey, why not give it a try.

In comparison to the WAG200G, the Thompson sync's 1.5Mbit higher downstream. This is also reflected in my download speeds when using the Thompson, they are about 0.5 to 1Mbit faster :(

However, the WAG200G just is far superior in it's interface.

I have tried reverting back to the stock firmware on the WAG200G, but now am back on the latest woytekm Annex A firmware.

Routers using certain broadcom chipsets are able to use something called DMT tool (Not 100% sure on the name) which fiddles with SnR ratios and transmit power in order to boost performance.

I am wondering if there is anything I can do in order to boost ADSL performance of the WAG200G router? Perhaps a script to run on the router bootup which boosts the output power of the router?

Any help would be very appreciated!

You can try my firmware. I have done some speed improvements and kernel patches. I have also did some finetuning and wrote a QoS-Script.

You can get it here: http://tinyurl.com/6lmsxm.

Your firmware above is for an Annex B router though.

Will this work on Annex A?

Hi, I follow this steps (using A1.01.06-woytekm08), but my /mnt/mtd5 is empty.
Check box "Enable dnsmasq instead of udhcp" is enabled.
When I write my MAC (format xx:xx:xx:xx:xx), IP, and click in "save my settings", all datas is lost.
    Can someone help me here?

Try to do step 2 again and paste output of the terminal here, or mail me directly at wag200@gmail.com

I just killed my beauty wag200 with that firmware........ sorry guys, bad work, i just lost 70 euros because i dont know how to restore the original firmware, because i cant reach the routers interface via the browser typing the routers ip. Any comments?

edit: I want to apologize 4 the above comment because i wasnt ready to brick my modem (who is?). May be the firmware didnt work with me, but his support was immediate, after email him and he worked for hours to restore my routers firmware back via ssh. Researchers like him are need in the world of technology and at last, make our lifes better. Feel comfortable to use his firmware and if u have any problem dont run like me to say bad words but ask him for help. The guy is OK
