I just cant get it to work! I bought this because it SHOULD restrict by IP and time but I can't get it to work! What am I missing?

    So far I've tried:

Allow IP by time to time - Result always on
Allow IP & MAC by time to time - Result always on
Deny IP by time to time - Result always off
Deny IP & MAC by time to time - Result always off

    And the curly one.....

Rule 1 = Allow IP by time to time
    Rule 2 = Deny IP 24/7

    Result...... Always off!

I would have thought that allow by time to time by IP would restrict that IP to that time!

    What am I missing?

BTW, everything else it just dandy!

I have had these troubles before with Linksys WRT54G[L] firmware - and I'm sure the results were not always repeatable, so I suggest you save your rules and reboot the router before testing and declaring failure.

The time based ones are difficult to test, you really need to see what happens when the time progresses past the targets, not when you 'drop in' to one of the periods.

Do you have access to a command console by telnet/ssh on the router? If so you will see that access restrictions are implemented using iptables netfilter rules which are changed when required by times (use "iptables -L -vn" and "iptables -L -vn -t nat"). A feature of this implementation is that when an internet packet is matched by a rule with ACCEPT or DROP no further rules will be tested - so the order is very important.

Thanks for the reply. No I never did a power off reboot so you may have a point there.

Lyinksys sent me a firmware update which I did via remote access....... Now I cant access a thing and the wife has no idea!!! Simple I would have thought, ipconfig, default gateway but no connect....... Prolly something to do with scripts being blocked with Firefox but it's all too hard 1200km away over the phone!

She has plugged in the old router so HTTP & Mail is up again.

I'll do a factory reboot when I get home and try your suggestion.

    Many thanks.
