    Hi All,

I am fed up with poor performance from my WPC54G card and I am looking to replace it with another brand!.

Are there any WAG54G users running 54G pcmcia cards other than Linksys kit? If so please would you reply with the make/model of card and how you find it.

I am specific in wanting to use the full 54G link - looking to achieve as close to the 18Mbps transfer the link is capable of. I do not think locking 54G down to 11b is acceptable, although many users seem to do this.

    Thanks in advance.

well the one i am suggesting is not a pcimia card but a usb........
the dwl-g120 it works great it works so great that i have 3 of them. i am no fan of linksys wireless adapters. this usb adpater works great.
if you want a pcimia card then go with orinoco but most stores like bustbuy do not carry orinoco. i think dlink is your best bet. they have xlent support and great value. and they also do carry pcimia cards.

    hope this helped

    Cheers Jagboy

I would go usb immediatyely if the laptop I want this for had a usb 2 port.
(stuck with 1.1 built in ports).

could always get an adapter if needs must however!

Sorry about reviving an old thread

I had a combination of a WAG54G (v 1.2) and a Linksys 54G PCMCIA card. Well the problems with the WAG caused me to drop that for a Netgear and thats now working fine. The performance of the card was dire on both routers. Anywhere between 2mb and 11mb.

I uninstalled the Linksys card and downloaded the drivers from the net. I did not run the driver installer and install the Linksys wireless connection software. I let windows detect the drivers from within the downloaded & extracted folder and install just the drivers.

Now I am running the card without Linksys' software using the Windows SP2 built in wireless configuration and i am getting between 25 & 42mbit from the same card.

May be worth anyone else trying this see if that helps with any problems!

    Regards - Newbie - Carl :)
