    hey all,

    i have a wag54g i bought here in australia.

i want to update the firmware, but i'm very unsure what to use. firstly can i use the annex a firmware (i don't have isdn so it's not b).

the reason i ask is that annex a on the linksys website talks about europe only. is it possible my wag54g is different? why does every manufacturer forget about australia? they sell us other region products and forget to mention which versions of the product we get shipped here *sigh*

any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi Remnant,
Australia uses ADSL over POTs, which is the same as Euro speak "Annex A" firmware. The Australian firmware is different however, as it is preconfigured with the correct ATM VPI/VCI values that are used over here (VPI = 8, VCI = 35) - the Euro firmware versions will almost always have different default values to these. That said, there is nothing stopping you from downloading the Euro firmware and changing those values to 8 and 35 respectively, just as long as you know that needs to be done - if it is not done you won't be able to get online.

Annex A and Annex B are not talked about in relation to Australian versions of firmware, because it has no relevance here - ADSL over ISDN (Annex B) is not available, nor is it available anywhere else outside Europe to the best of my knowledge. It is only an issue with more power users such as yourself who want to experiment, in which case you have forums such as this to get your answers :)

Here is the latest beta for WAG54G V2 Australian Model - v1.00.57 beta. (as well as the original firmware that Aus models come with - v1.00.39)

Note that 1.00.57 is a beta version, and should only be installed if you know what you're doing. NB - This is a generic (non- AU version), so you will need to set VPI=8 and VCI=35 on the main setup page of the router OR IT WILL NOT WORK IN AUSTRALIA!!!

Also, don't use this if you are not in Australia because it might turn your router into a brick!

If you are going to be trying out different firmware, I would strongly suggest familiarizing yourself with TFTP.
