Wag54g problems

    I have a wag54g V1.2 with original firmware (V1.01.6).

I have a few problems and hoped a firmware upgrade would help but.

    problem list:

    1. I cannot seem to get 54M connections at all
    2. The wireless link has a pitiful range (a few metres) and keeps losing connection
    3. Tried to do firmware upgrade but after downloading an firmware .bin file and using the admin screen only got half a progress bar then nothing... had to reboot Wag54g then it reverts to original firmware only.

    the questions are:

    Is there a suitable upgrade?

Is there another way to upgrade? (the help says use the ftp software downloaded with the upgrade but I didn't get any).

Thanks in advance for any assistance

firstly make sure you have the correct firmware update there are 2 versions

    AnnexA and AnnexB

Annex A is for normal European connections.
Annex B is for (ADSL over ISDN)

then upgrade firmware via the admin/ upgrade page. make sure the pc sending the file is WIRED and not on a wireless connection.

the latest seems to be 1.02.7:

    ftp://ftp.linksys.com/international/firmware/WAG54G_AnnexA_ETSI_v1.02.7_03_code.bin

though changes for this version are unknown.

    Firmware version 1.02.1

    - Added "Remote Upgrade" UI
    - Fixed issue with Nortel VPN clients not being able to connect to Gateway using certificates
    - Fixed disconnection issue during large file FTP download when using IPSec passthrough(UDP)
Note: If after upgrade you have problems with disconnection on the wireless, it may be necessary
to restore the unit to factory defaults and set it up again to solve this problem.

also try here: for other WAG54G users...

    Hi,

For firmware upgrade, use TFTP :
    ftp://ftp.linksys.com/pub/network/tftp.exe

If you have a low signal try an other channel (6 or 11 seems a good choice).

If at 2 or 3 meters, the signal is not good, you probably have an antenna problem, may be you'll have to replace your hardware...
