WAG54G problems

I have a WAG54G in the UK. I assume that this is a Version 1. I bought it in January of this year. It is set to mixed mode as I occasioanly use my work laptop which hs inbuilt 802.11b wirless adapter. It has no encryption, but does filter on MAC addresses, which have the PC's I want enabled.

My main PC is running Windows 2000 fully patched. It has a Linksys USB 802.11g USB wireless adapter attached. When I first boot the machine and look at the WLAN monitor I am told that there is no association with the Access Point. I then look at available networks and can see mine. I then hit connect and it then shows as associated, but not connected to the interent. Looking at the LEDs on the WAG54G the DSL and Internet lights are both green. If I hit connect a few more times, it will eventually connnect to the internet. This is quite annoying but I have lived with it all this time.

However recently once the connection is up and running for a while, it will be dropped. The only way to recover it is to reboot the WAG54G. I have seen posts that suggest that the version 1 of the WAG54G has flakey wireless performance (which is what I want it for). Do I have grounds to seek a replacement (still within first 12 months)? If so do I need to contact Linksys, or the company that I bought the router from (ebuyer.com)?

Notice that the V2 is supposed to be better. Does the hardware look exactly the same? Quick search on internet just shows WAG54G on sites, can't find anything to suggest that it is V2.

    Thanks in advance,
    Paul

Linksys customer support doesn't not replace anymore v1.2 by v2.0, but by WAG354G !

I sent support an email and was given some basic intructions to check that I do indeed have a problem. I have replied to say that I have tried what they suggested and that the problem still exists.

If they replace with WAG354G is that a big problem to me? I currently only have 1 PC that is used for internet access. I am considering getting a Slim Devices Squeezebox 3, that would use the Access Point, possibly wired, possibly wirelessly (haven't decided yet). I will be using WEP encryption, but that is it. What would I be missing out on if I took this as a replacement?

    Thanks,
    Paul

WAG354G appears to me not "mature".
It's just a cheap entry point, a way for Linksys to produce at a lower cost.
I have no experience with it but what I read on the web remember me what I encounter with my old 1.2 which disappeared with 2.0... :sadbye:

Thanks for the information. Has anybody in the UK had their original WAG54G replaced by V2 hardware. Linksys technical support are saying that this isn't their policy:

Thank you again for contacting Linksys Technical Support.

Sorry for the misinformation that you got there, Linksys stand is still your device will be replace with the exact same model. Linksys doesn't do any product upgrades or version upgrades. Have you tried upgrading the firmware of your router? You will find an updated firmware on this website: ftp://ftp.linksys.com/international/firmware look for the exact model number of your router there download it and upgrade the firmware of your router.

If you have any further questions, feel free to visit our Knowledge Base at http://www.linksys.com/kb/ or send us an e-mail at support@linksys.com so that we can further assist you.

Not in the policy in France also, but that is (was) in the facts because 1.2 is a crap and 2.0 good...

The goal is for Linkys and the customer to be happy... :)

In Holland you can get a WAG354G when you send your v1.2.
Im still thinking about it, because they say in can take 10 days.
