WAG54G Rebooting when changing options

Is it just me, or does this router reboot everytime you change an option?

Ie you turn off the firewall, it reboots
    Add a port mapping, reboots

Just seems like you change an optiona nd it either reboots or drops the wireless to apply it. Seems strange as UPNP can add port mappins on the fly but it has to reboot if you add them manually?

Have tried various firmware versions, currently using the latest beta.

The WAG54G v1 seems to restart after every change. Bitch and complain to Linksys.

The wireless on the WAG54G v1 is also known to be quite troublesome.

I don't know the WAG54G specifically, but I'd imagine it is basically the same as what they do with the WRT54G units.

Any change that is made is written to the list of parameters in the nvram. Then the system is rebooted, which takes only seconds. The boot process of course goes through the nvram parameter list, one step at a time and configures each module appropriately for what is in nvram. That of course is a relatively complex process.

Not every change is handled that way, as some changes would not affect more than one or two things. But rather than trying to keep track of a massive state machine that would be required to adjust configuration without a reboot, they just keep track of one set of sequential configuration options, and go through it from start to end for virtually anything of significance.

Given the complexity involved, I don't think I'd want to deal with the bugs that would be inherent in the massive state machine! There are enough bugs that crop up in just one
    sequential configuration run...
