WAG54G V.2 Firmware V 1.00.19 drops wireless - overheating?

Hi, I've had my WAG54G V.2 Firmware V 1.00.19 for around a year, and just recently it has been starting to loose wireless connectivity.

Changing the SSID setting between enabled and disabled would usually bring up the connection again, but recently it has been happening very regularly.

The wireless use is just my Mrs browsing the web on the laptop - hardly hard work - but it seems the router does get very very warm. So I am wondering if it is an overheating issue.

I went looking for firmware updates and came upon this forum. Seems there are GPL downloads, where you must compile the code yourself. I've got a Gentoo linux box I could probably use to compile it (as long as there are step by step instructions in the readmes I guess it shouldn't be too hard) - but I am wondering if it is worth while me upgrading the routers software, especially as it seems that a new firmware introduces new problems.

That and the link to the current version of firmware I have on the Router (1.00.19) does not seem to be on the Linksys site right now.

So anyone else had overheating problems with the WAG54G v.2? Anyone had any luck compiling and using the WAG54GV2-E2_v1.00.43 on a UK verison of the router?

I would hate to go to all the trouble and have it make the situation worse. Is the support on the linksys website worthwhile? Any bits I should look at?

Sorry for all questions, but I'm sure you smart people have some of the answers!

    Cheers,

    Paul

    Hi,

    I suggest you to :

    1. put a fan on the top of your Wag because the wireless is very sensible to the temperature...

    2. upgrade your firmware to 1.01.15

    Regards,

Hi HiSpeed, I noticed you seem to be very active around here so I was hoping you would take an interest! :)

Could you point me to a url I can get that 1.01.15 from? the official linksys support guy was telling me to reflash with the original firmware - but I could not see any sense in that. The only official firmware seems to be the version I already have.

Or should I try and compile a verison from the gpl source?

    Cheers,

    Paul

I raised a case with Linksys and just kept going with it. Three versions of firmware, and some time spent debugging..................................

They replaced it. They arranged for it to be picked up from my house and sent me a new one about a week later.

If you own a WAG54G, get rid it. Its junk.

Big up to Linksys support, they always listened to me. The WAG54G is a lemon.

I got lots of other Linksys stuff. I am a fan

    Hi,
You can get it into the post : http://www.linksysinfo.org/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=8153

A hard reset is needed after upgrade.

With it, until today my v2 works better than my v1.2.
I had a little trouble to access Internet but I din't find the reason may be Windows, ZoneAlarm, 1.01.15 or both...

    Hi
Does anyone have a suggestion on how to see the WAG54G V.2 stats using SNMP?

    Thanks
