I am new to this forum! I have joined in desperation! The WAG as you guys call it is driving me crazy. Where do I start . . .so many issues.

The WAG tells me that the firmware on it is Firmware Version: 1.00.19. Is this the latest?

I just cannot get the VPN configured to hook up to my NetGear at work! No error messages, no logs I have to continuously log into the NetGear remotely to have any idea what is going on.

WPA-PSK security does not work. NO DHCP negotiation even though signal is excellent and the trans rate shown as 54MBPS.

I have picked up many many tips from this forum . . . .thanks. However, I really need to forget (for the most time) that the WAG is there and let it do what it is supposed to do.

    Please can anyone help?

    Hi Veggytiger

We also have problems with the WAG54G V2 linksys. And yes 1.00.19 is the latest.

Everything on my linksys works fine. Wireless with dhcp is working. Normal adsl functionality is also working.

The problem that we having is with a linksys to linksys setup. The tunnel comes up fine. both sides can ping across the tunnel. However when one side drops the connection the tunnel dies and doesn't get reconnected. Somebody has to logon to the website and manually connect. Now the people from linksys told me is a common problem with this type of setup.

    Thats all

You could enable remote adminstration so you can acces to the setup page form anywhere

Thanks for your replies. I must say that it is comforting (in a strnage way) knowing that there are others out there with similiar problems.

The DHCP negotiation or indeed, the netwrok connection is not working for wireless when I try to get the WAG to use WPA-PSK authentication. My laptop (Windows XP (Now SP-2 after reading contents of this forum)) which is a compaq nx9105 with a broadcom wireless interface, shows that there is excellent signal and the speed is 54 Mbps. However, even though I can see packets sent & recieved count increasing say once every 1.5 seconds - the DHCP has failed and there is no connectivity. This happens for TKIP encryption. For AES the laptop does not even report a signal.

On the VPN side - my VPN software using the WAG for pass thru works fine. The WAG itself refuses to try and connect even! The only thing that seems to make it want to try a connection even is a power cycle!!! Therefore, if you say that yours is connecting then not connecting again - does the keep alive flag in the Advanced Setting for IPSec help at all?

Could you give me an idea of your settings? My Netgear (Remote end) has been set up for remote connection (Not a responder). The remote id is a fqdn (of the WAG) and the local id (NetGear) is its WAN IP. The NetGear compalins after the NONCE,ID that it is not getting a valid ID.

The VPN setup of the WAG does not seem to be complete in the sense that there seems to be no way to enter the local and remote ids which would be used at the remote end to decise on a phase 1 policy.

Any help at all is much appreciated.

We got rid of our WAG54G's and got money back and have now got a pair of NetGear DG834G deployed running the latest beta firmware that adds VPN.

This was deployed weeks ago (not by me) and just works, have not heard any remote worker complaints, they just turn their wireless portables on at the other end and can get conntected to works internal network no problems. Just works.
