We've been buying in WAG54G routers for out home workers and branch offices, after some tweaking (disabling UPnP) they're totally stable, however we can't get hold of the v1/v1.2 routers any more. The v2 routers seem on the surface to be a lot better with controls for specifying static DNS servers (which was something sorely lacking in the v1.x series) but I simply cannot get the VPN to work. I've looked at the logs for the firewall in the office and there's absolutely no sign that the v2 routers are even attempting a connection. Using DES/MD5/768. Any thoughts?

I'm using my WAG54G v2 to connect to a SonicWall Pro3060 (my v1.x was replaced by LinkSys).

    I can get it to connect using 3DES / MD5 / IKE

What happens though is when the key expires at 8 hours, the WAG54G won't renew the tunnel without a power cycle. The 54G reports "Connected" as the status (even when it's not) and attemping a disconnect/connect gets nowhere. At that point it's power off time.

I get nothing at all written into the onboard logs which is a great help. I've just e-mailed LinkSys support for a second time to ask for help.

Try using 3DES, SHA, and 1024. Also set your timeouts to 3600.

Additionally, when you set your pre shared key, use a hex string such as:

0x12345 or 0x246810 (something random) I used my WAG with greenbow and had absolutely "no" problems people have spoken of in this forum. Oh, VPN kicked ass with that little unit, but I needed more than 5 tunnels, so I started using my WRV54G after getting an ADSL modem for it.

    See if this helps...
