Want to add a second wireless router as AP

Back home from school and have an extra router laying around, I was wondering how to set it up as an Access Point for other parts of the house for my PowerBook and other wireless tools. I have not set up the second router yet, but was interesting in what needs to be done to the second router so that it can put out the wireless signal. I know it would be easier to just buy a stronger Antenna but as long as I have the second router already I might as well use it. I was reading some of the other post and it seems I will need different firmware to do this. If someone could give a more complete explanation on how to do this it would help.
The setup of my house is below.
