its running on the same channel
    its running the same SSID
its running the same WEP bit level and password

its running in wireless bridge mode and ive entered the MAC for my WRT54GS in the box next to it

i hit apply and unhook the CAT 5 cable... i try to hit the IP address of the WAP and it times out...

If u hv a WAP11 v2.2, then the limitation for a bridge is thus: "When set to "Access Point Client", "Wireless Bridge" or "Wireless Bridge -
Point to MultiPoint" mode, the device will only communicate with another
    WAP 11 ver. 2.2 or WAP 11."

If u hv a WAP11 v2.6, When set to "Access Point Client", "Wireless Bridge", "Wireless Bridge - Point to MultiPoint" or "Wireless Repeater" mode, the device will only communicate with another WAP 11 ver. 2.6, WAP 11 ver. 2.2 or WAP 11."

    ... atleast as per http://www.linksysdata.com/ui/WAP11/

So, my guess would be, it won't work with a WRT54GS.

I made this work with WAP11 connect to WRT54GS using wireless client mode on WAP11. As far as I can see you can't use bridge mode because standard WRT54GS doesn't support bridge mode (unless someone can tell me how.) HOwever, if WAP11 is operating as client then the WRT54GS accepts it like a normal wireless device. The problem I found was that in client mode the WAP11 won't work until the device it is attached to (on the wired connector) sends some data. I think this is because it picks up the MAC address of the attached device to use in the wireless connection. The problem is that if your attached device won't generate any frames to get started then the link never connects. This is the problem I had with this configuration which is why I came here. I'd like to get it working im bridge mode instead of client mode.
