Hello I want to buy a WAP54G to use as a repeater.
However my first accespoint is not a linksys so my question is will the WAP54G work as a repeater with another AP not from Linksys or do I have to flas hthe firmware ?

The WAP54G will only work with another WAP54G, a WRT54G and the WRT54GS with appropriate firmware on both. It also has been reported that it works with the WRK54G. You may be able to get it to work with another manufacturers AP, but do not count on it. If you can return the unit, then try it out, but if you cannot, buy a repeater from the same manufacturer as your access point. WDS us bit a IEEE standard and only a guideline, so repeaters usually do not work between different manufacturers.

Are we getting terminology mixed up here?
    You mean an ethernet repeater?
If so then you'll find the WAG54G is actually 4 port ethernet switch with an ADSL modem included. An ethernet switch is more capable than an ethernet repeater. Ethernet repeaters and switches will work interchangably from any manufacturer. Ethernet is a standard. If different manufacturers equipment do not work together then they are not ethernet.
If you're talking about some other kind of repeater then ignore me :)
