WAP54G v3 w/ HyperWAP + 84mw output = no change?

Alright guys, I have a WAP54G v3 (obiviously :) ) and I have been very pleased with its performance to date, I decided to play with it a bit and after bricking it 5 times and performing CPR I finally got it to take the latest HyperWAP firmware...

So I went in and adjusted the output power to the maxium of 84mw and honestly I see NO difference.

Right now I am on my MacBook Pro with istumbler and airport rader open and I am honestly maybe 6feet away from the AP and I am only getting a singal strength of 65-70%, where as I have a NetGear WGR614 v7 upstairs and two rooms over in a closet with all of my other LAN gear and I am getting a signal of 55%...

What is going on here? I am not expecting miracles but seriously with such a high output and within such close range I figured I'd get closer to 85-90%? Am I wrong to expect perfomance like this or is something limiting the output of my WAP?

I have run all sorts of tests on everything, no shorts, no dropped packets, all running on Belkin cat 6 cable, I am getting my 8mb downstream and my 512kb upstream. There are quite a few switches and a hardware firewall but everything is properly subnetted and nothing else is giving me problems...

    Thanks in advance!
