    Hi. I've got a WRT54G v1 with tomato firmware.

I;ve noticed that when i try play an avi file over wireless (not on the internet, but from another computer), it will play fine for a few minutes but then stop (and zoom player just goes back to 00:00.

the wireless strength is very good (54mbps) and there is nothing downloading anywhere.

    anyone have similar issues?

It would be interesting to know if this problem occours with a wired connection too, and what kind of media you are streaming. In example divx, xvid or High Definition material in a .avi container. What program do you use to stream the files?

This problem does not occur with a wired connection (using an xbox with XBMC installed).

I'm trying to watch a 2 hour divx file. I've tried using windows media player and that just stops playing and says network connection error. and Zoom player normally stops and then just starts from the beginning again.

I then tried copying it using windows and it stopped a minute in and said the network path is no longer available.

To be clear, you've tried this same Xbox both wired and wireless?

No the xbox doesn't have wireless, but i've just tried it wired with the same laptop that failed wireless and it worked fine.

Tomato (1.21 now) is very bad to stream avi divx/xvid movie with any wmp11, tversity, orb, or whatever you want on wirelessed PS3. PS3 Streaming freeze, jerk, stop for buffering like huge fuk'n'ass'ole !!!!
Hyperwrt thibor is better but its not the best. I think this router have serious streaming problem with PS3 ONLY because PS3 is unable to streaming only one movie ALONE whereas my iPhone and my laptop stream together two various movies perfectly!!!...
I tried tomato 1.21, hyperwrt thibor 15c, original linksys 4.7 too without success with this f.u.c.k.i.n.g. PS3.
Hyperwrt Thibor is the better, tomato is badest...

I am on Tomato 1.21. Streaming media with Tversity and PS3 works just fine for me.

Freeze and jerk are usually issue with transcoding maxing out the cpu, not the wireless connection. You might run into wireless bottleneck if you are trying to playback high def contents without any transcoding.

I have the same issue when I try to read a video from a computer (Eee-Box wireless) to another computer (my main rig connected with a cable) through a windows shared folder.
I could download at 2-3 MB/s, but there was some kind of issues with latency.
Everything went fine when I connected my eee-box with a RJ-45.

So it's not really related to PS3, it's a problem with the WLAN.

I use the 1.19 VPN build, and I also have better performance when accessing my eee-box through the VPN now since it's connected with a cable.

I'm not sure its WLAN problem... Because how to explain that I stream perfectly on iPhone and laptop together two different movies in the same time without any buffering or jerking issue Where PS3 alone can't do ?
PS3 is so slowww on wifi too, with extremely fast connection compare to other devices... (iPhone, Laptop...)
Sony must understand that the PS3 powerfull 200gigaflops processor (1 Teraflops total = http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cell_microprocessor )inside is not made for cooking spaghettis à la bolognaise and they have to recruit qualified programmers who know witch device are inside the black box e x a c t l y … to optimize them tabarnac !

do you stream the same video ?
    (same resolution, same bitrate)

same video/bitrate/resolution and I stream together on iPhone and Laptop TWO DIFFERENT MOVIES perfectly AT THE SAME TIME... Thats PS3 can't do ALONE !!!

I think it's a serious PS3 buffering problem, there is only a poor 256MB memory inside the playstation 3 box... (grandfathers 1990's computer windows 3.1 have more ...!!!)

Between my wirelesses laptop and my computer I upload a complete 700MB movie in 2 minutes in streaming...In fact, that's mean exactly 2600KB/s thats PS3 can NEVER handle with 256MB memory only...

unfortunately PS3 don't use his hard drive for buffering too... and have the more cheapest wifi receiver in the galaxy !

Sony is not worldchampioncheap but the GALAXYchampioncheap !

    THIS IS A PROBLEM.

Sony programmers have to do with the splendid cell processor for optimizing transferts between components inside the box BEFORE to grow a gigantic firmware for nothing
