wds between 2 wrt, with dhcp on a modem/router

    I have got a modem/router (topcom 874b) + 2 wrt's.
Want to run wds between wrt's, and have access to the net.
wds runs fine between wrt's with hyperwrt set up according to guide (no internet then), one of the wrt's running dhcp.

then I try to connect one wrt (via port 4) to the modem/router to get on the net. The modem/router is running dhcp, so i turn it off in the wrt. Result: instability. I can connect, but can not get an ip, or I will connect successfully ca 1 in 10 times. The wrt is in router-mode. Has anybody successfully connected like this?

Also, now(tofu12) I am having troubles connecting wireless with just the one wrt connected to the router/modem(modem runs dhcp, but I can not get ip in 90% of cases). works fine with wired. Any similar experiences?
