Hi guys, I have this issue with WDS using WRT54GV3 and V6 routers. The V3 is the host router and V6 is the client side wds. Now, wds is works great, but sometimes say if there's a power outage and both routers boot up at the same time, you can see in the status page that they are connected, you can see the signal bar upto 50% which is what it normally is, but, they are not connected, you can't ping one router from the other. The only way to get connection back is to do a hard reboot on the client router. Now, my settings are STP is enabled on host (i tried enabling on both routers but this made issues worse), also, i if I enable wds/connection watchdog on the client router the router for some reason reboots after 300 sec (my setting), even though it's connected, so I can't enable that. I'm using dd-wrt build 15962 generic standard and micro on the client side. Please help with this as I'm running out of options. Thanks.

Yep. Down side of WDS. If the routers get out of synch in any way you have to reboot. My experience is a soft reboot is enough. For me I only have to soft reboot the master and then it finds the slave routers. Don't know about the rebooting thing for watchdog. I'd disable it.

If I enable watchdog, the client wds router for reason reboots every watchdog event, whatever it's set to, regardless of the fact that wds is working fine and both routers are connected. When I turn on STP on both routers, I can't get http access (local or web) to the client router sometimes, sometimes it works, however, having STP on only on the host router fixes this issue. The only thing is, say if there's a power outage, or both routers reboot at the same time, it shows them being connected with good signal strength, but there's no communication between them until you hard reboot the second router.

Ok, guys, here's an update for others who are having the same issues. I basically installed latest shibby build of tomato on the v3 WRT54G (main) router and installed micro version of dd-wrt 12548micro build on the wrt54gv7.2 router and that finally fixed the issues, i didn't even have to turn on stp stp is set to off on both routers and it still works great, no more problems.

I'm glad you resolved the issue. You don't need spanning tree anyway.
