    Good Day,

I have 2 WRT54GL and would like to configure 1 of them as repeater. Below is my setup.

WRT54GL #1 (Connected to cable modem)
    Firmware: Tarifa b30RC#8
    Wireless Security: WPA-TKIP
    SSID : broadcast enable
    Wireless Channel : 11
    loopback: disable
    SSID: linksys
    DHCP Server: enable

    WRT54GL#2 (Repeater Mode)
    Firmware: Tarifa029
    Wireless Security: WPA-TKIP
    Wireless Channel : 11
    SSID : broadcast enable
    loopback: disable
    SSID: linksys
Wireless Network Mode : same as #1
    DHCP Server: disable
WDS mode: entered the wireless mac address of WRT54GL #1

rssi value is not zero, seem to detect.

Symptons: the repeater works after power-on. But client station connect via the repeater will drop signal after 10-15 mins.

    Q1: Can I use WPA-TKIP instead of WPA-AES?
Q2: Do I need to use the same firmware for both the routers ? I tried upload the repeater firmware with b30RC#8 and the same problem I encounter.

The problem with WDS, the security key must be the same on every router. Mostly a static security is used like WEP, TKIP changes this key randomly and can not be used with WDS.

WDS is hardware based, the firmware does only configure the WDS bridge, you can use other firmware without any trouble.
