I recently got a WRT54G v2.2 from a friend to try and see what I could do with it but I keep having this weird and random problem. Every so often, the web GUI will just stop coming up and i will get a "Page cannot be displated" and it wont come back until I keep cliking on a link and hitting the back button a bunch of times at which point it will sit there and try and time out but eventually will go to the page I clicked on. Is this common? I guess it works fine, it just seems like maybe its set to turn off the gui when no one is using it or something *shrugs* any idea's?

    Current setup...

I have the WRT54G plugged into my 16port switch with an ip of 10.0.0.10 with DHCP off. I am connecting to it form 10.0.0.100 which is a wired machine and from 10.0.0.48, a wireless machine. Both machines experience the same problem.

what firmware are u running. if it is dd-wrt pre4 or ss-wrt pre5 there is a option in the wireless advance setings tab to turn off the web gui. so check that. it turns it off for the wireless. so go into the web gui with a wired pc

Well this happens with any firmware, even, but not as frequently, with the official firmware. I am running HyperWRT 2.0 stable at the moment though. I did just notice one thing, my laptop was not connect (suspend mode) and I was not able to get to the router via a wired computer until I connected and browsed the web on the laptop. Almost as if the router was "asleep" or something. Is this a common thing?

Also, another thing I am noticing is when I'm not browsing the net on my laptop, the connection seems to degrade from Excellent to Good and when I start browsing again, it jumps back up to excellent....

This router is from a friend, so its possible there is something wrong with it? not sure what though. If i were to get my own router, what version should I get and how can i insure that I get whatever version I want when ordering from whoever?

Ok, I'm a complete idiot. my printer is 10.0.0.10! that would explain why the router was available only half the time. because it was trying to hit the printer not the router! grrr. ok, this thread is dead now. what a noob
