    Just to let you know sometime in the future we shall be upgrading to vBulletin software. this is a better and more secure software thought forum based, there is a lot of plug-ins and modules about which will make the site react in a similar way as phpnuke.

    I have already run a practice import of users and posts etc on the site, which had its complications but nothing to worrying.

    I hope to make the transition from phpnuke to vbulletin within the next month. moving posts, user db etc is not that hard however the front end portal, forum permissions etc and content/reviews will need tweaked , so bare with us on this.

    when we move across to vB, i will however close the site for a few days to make sure ALL is running ok and no new posts and users get left behind in the importing of the database.

    right way, for site cms you can use freeware extention vBadvanced CMPS, for export/import phpbb2vb there is ImpEx tool (but it cost some $), also vb works faster (but use more sql queries)...

    Excellent. I just can't wait any longer. This PHPNuke is so slow.

    yeah sorry though it is taking its time, this is due to me having 40% packet loss near everyday for the last 3 weeks. and i need time to tweak the portal to the way i want it. unfortunately it is very slow as i dont alway have a good connection to the net and has set me back a few week. I want the transition to go as smooth as possible, however for this to happen i will need more time, of which i dont have this month:( i am away on my course soon which takes me well into march. The course is very intensive and includes these modules.

    * CompTIA A+ (Core Hardware)
    * CompTIA A+ (Operating System Technological)
    * CompTIA Network+
    * CompTIA Security+
    * BTEC Advanced Award in Wireless LAN Design & Installation

    if all is well the i shall be back around 11th March when i can finsh the transition, if i do it now it will be rushed and may have errors that i wont be able to fix since i wont have much spare time.

    if my connection was better i would have made this move to vB by end of Jan, but i have about 1 hour a day that i get no packet loss.

    have fun...

    Don't worry, take your time. It is better to do it right than to rush and face with problems.

    What connection bandwidth do you have? A 40% packet lost is too much. Perhaps, your router needs some tweakings, i.e. make sure you have use the right MTU size.

    Good move. We had the same thing happen to our phpnuke site. Made the switch over to vB and it's been great.

    The only downside is we have not been able to find a donation module similar to Dave's that stays updated. That was one of the reasons we got nailed is cause we weere running an older version of phpnuke so we could keep using his module.

    Get prepared for consitant updates from vB, which is a good thing. Even if it breaks everything else. :oops:

    Thanks for the support everyone! Hopefully vBulletin will help alleviate some of the problems that we have as administrators that you guys never see plus all the additional speed and security benefits... Of course, with all the added cost, nows the time to increase those donations ;-)

    this was a long time comming but conversion is now 95% of the way done .if you do have broken links or issues with the new software, most can be fixed as they are more than likely just a setting in the cpanel that needs enabled/disabled. please fowrard any problems to me or james via pm, the contact us form or the linksys Issues forum here:
