    What is JFFS2?
JFFS2 is a log-structured file system designed for use on flash devices in embedded systems. Rather than using a kind of translation layer on flash devices to emulate a normal hard drive, as is the case with older flash solutions, it places the filesystem directly on the flash chips.

JFFS2 was developed by Red Hat, based on the work started in the original JFFS by Axis Communications, AB.

you should be able to use it by going to a writable partition and putting files there, however I don't use DD-WRT so hopefully someone that does can answer that better...

with the jffs you can download things called packakges and they are like little apps for the wrt.

I find the JFFS system useless with samba avaiable.

Using the web interface, specify a windows share mount (+user +pass if required), and put all the stuff in there. Gigs of space instead of kilo's.

I have successfully got kismet (Drone + Server) working perfectly, plus it writes everything to the samba(windows) share. Even got a Windows kismet client working great with it. Of course s linux client also works.

Of course I have to keep my computer on for the share to be there, but that's no problem, since it's on keeping up with the syslog and other stats.

As for kismet drone, hint, "wl up" (produces prism0 for my wrt54g 1.1).

Your router isn't gonna like it if you reboot that PC while the router tries to access anything on that share :)

At which point you have to ask your self.. why am I using a small router that is dependent on another system when I could just run all of the routing packages on this spare computer that I have to have on all the time..

I use a Linksys router because it is NOT dependent on any other hardware in my house.. heck if there is an internet problem that I can't correct remotely I can have someone cycle the power on the router and the internet connection and things are as good as new. But the stand alone router is so stable that case is rarely needed.

    One more question about jfss2:

I'm trying the full version firmware (it's amazing), and i really want jffs2 for installing kismet on it, but i'm having a problem with this, i can't see any free space on this mount.

    Look at this:

    ~ # df -h
Filesystem Size Used Available Use% Mounted on
    /dev/root 2.7M 2.7M 0 100% /
    /dev/mtdblock/4 256.0k 256.0k 0 100% /jffs
At this point, i dont't know if this is normal with full version, or it's simply a little bug with the firmware.

Is there any chance that basic version allow the free space that full version doesn't has?

Thank's you all, you are simply the best!

From what I've been told, the basic version will give you access to the /jffs partition if you have a "G" router. I tried it, but it didn't have ssh on it. I needed ssh for fwbuilder. So, I am back to the full version. I really wish I could have full version with writeable partition. That would be awesome!

Sveasoft Talisman has 1 MB JFFS2 and SSH on the WRT54G. As far as I know you don't lose any Alchemy features and gain 1 MB of JFFS2 even on the G's.

my latest internal build give you more space on jffs than talisman and the normal version works in G units with jffs. but i can't release it yet. i changed to much

    Thank you man!

When you say "normal version" are you referring to the full version of prefinal 4? If so, I'll be glad to hear that.

One other thing that I personally would like to have back on it would be the vi editor. Got to have an editor on the thing. But thanks for the hard work to get this working for the "G" models.

Yeah the new DDWRT JFFS2 beats Talisman jffs. I tried installing miau on Talisman but it just wouldn't work the way i wanted it to.

ipkg support is not even added to talisman.

Shame james put so much hard work into it when it just doesn't cut now doesn't it? Looks like sveasoft could do with Brainslayer on the team :haha2:

that would be the altimate blow ot the opensource community, if brianslyer went to sveasoft. that would be horrible that is when you know the world is going to end
brainslyer, fight the good fight against sveasoft :starwars:
