What lag to expect?

    Thanks to this forum I can establish a stable tunnel WRV54G - WRV54G or QuickVPN - WRV54G.

Connection is almost instant, ping between computers is about 15ms, ftp is fine.

Problem is, when I call up a share, it takes about 20 mins for the window to appear. Changing to a subfolder takes about 10 mins.
Is this kind of latency to be expected?

    Connection is 2M/256 - 1M/128.

A lot of it depends on name resolution...and how it's resolved. If you allow netbios through your VPN tunnel...that will slow things down tremendously. If you do the poor mans WINS...using lmhost files to resolve names, or...if you run a domain, you can (should be using) use your DC's IP for DNS. In those cases you can disable netbios in your tunnel, and have speedier results.

Also consider the benchmarked upload speeds of both ends of the tunnel. Run a online speed tests at each site..and take a look at the upload of each. Those are indications of the top speed of the tunnel from each end.
