What model to Buy?

I have seen plenty of posts on what router to buy and I currently have a Linksys WRT54G but I would like to buy an upgrade and keep this one for a backup.

Which model is able to be flashed and has the most processor speed and memory? I just don't want to buy one off the net unless it is what I'm looking for.

    Thanks in Advance,

so can you confirm you require a faster and bigger memory router that supports ddwrt?

If you search the forums there are plenty of articles that show comparisons. However it comes down to what you want to do and what you want to spend.

I'm looking to spend about 40 - 70 and I would like to run 2 - 3 vlans on a home network so I can VPN home and attach to my computers. I will be using dd-wrt. I may host a small website one day from home.

So what model is the better model WRT54GL or WRTSL54GS? I see the 54GS gives you a USB 2.0 port which is pretty nifty but can you load DD-WRT on it?

Yes you can but i believe the usb port is not supported. As far as vlan's go I have heard that there is a version of dd-wrt that does multiple vlan but there are lots of smart folks on this forum that can tell you how to do it via a script. Either router would give you that function, and hyperwrt+thibor will give you the usb support as well.

As I'm doing some research it looks like the (Asus WL-500gP, WRTSL54GS, and WRT300N) are a good fit for an upgrade from my WRT54G. I would like some extra memory and processing power along with the external USB storage.

Does DD-WRT support USB on all the hardware platforms above? Can all the platforms above be flashed with the DD-WRT firmware? I would like to hook up a 200 gig external storage device if possible.
