What's the "best" firmware for the WRT54GS

Right now I'm running Alchemy's release version:
    Alchemy-V1.0 v3.37.6.8sv

(The one free off their/this site)

However, I'm looking for more powerful firmwares to spice up my network life.

    What choices do I have?

Preferably, free, but I'm willing to pay UP TO $30, but not one cent more based solely on principle.

Any recommednations? Is there a "top of the line" firmware or something?

The one, that has only the features you need.

It's complete nonsense to choose a firmware only based on how many features it has. Usually more features means more overhead, more cpu load, less free memory and a slower network. After all the WRT54G(S) units are very limited on cpu power and memory.

If you could explain what exaclty you want to do with your WRT54GS, or which features you are missing in Alchemy, it would be easier to recommend a firmware, that suits your needs.

The firmware I've got right now doesn't have the feature that reserves each IP to each computer.

    I didn't see that!

Thanks for the heads up, but I'm having a problem:

    192.168.1.103 00:2F:1F:G3:25:F9 aurora

Is that the correct format for the DHCP
I want aurora with that MAC address to be assigned to that LAN ip.

    Please help.

Also, the firmwares that actually cost money, what features do they offer that are extra than ALchemy 1.0 release?

    But what is "aurora"?
I just put in the computer's name there.

The manual says host name, but I don't know, um, what that would be?
