    Hi @ll,

    after reading alot in this great forum i've ended between the wrt54gs v4 and the WRT54GL (which is a WRT54G v4).
    I searched for the wrt54gs v3 but i havnt found one...

    So my purpose is to use it with azureus (bittorrent)...

    In this post
    http://www.linksysinfo.org/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=6
    the WRT54G v4 is a little bit other than the wrt54gs v4...

    Which one is better (faster and/or stable/robust)? And which firmware should i use?

    EDIT:
    @firmware
    HyperWRT (tofu?thibor?) or DDWRT (std? or only mini -> 3MB)?
    All for stability and rapidness maybe using OpenVPN, maybe WOL...

    Thanks for your time

    Tobias

    The way I understand it is the WRT54G V4 = WRT54GL = WRT54GS V4 hardwarewise. The only difference is the GS has the Linksys firmware for the Speedbooster mode, while the G's don't.

    @Chuck_IV
    It seems so but there are little differences ;)

    Here the hardware difference, maybe someone has more Information about the other hardware components...

    Not being completely savvy on Linksys part numbers ...

    Why not go for the WRT54GX4 with the MIMO technology?

    When paired with another GX4 based device, this thing is supposed to fly. I have also read reports of people seeing improvements with non GX devices also.

    @WRT54GX4
    Really new huh?
    I think it does not support Linux!? And a proprietary solution?

    Unfortunately it does not look like third party firmwares have been developed for this router - at least looking on this site. Therefore if the firmware is Linux based, or other, I am not sure if that is known. Taking a quick look at Linksys' web site, the code for the GX4 is not in the GPL section either. (There is code for the basic GX in the GPL section however.)

    It appears therefore that you get what you get plain and simple.

    Paired with another GX4 based device though, it will give you faster than wired speeds! That just sounds cool :)

    Difference between the Routers...

    is there someone with the "spezial" (needed) Information?

    so
    i dont find any WRT54GS v3 in "Germany/Bremen" (including "all" online shops)

    now it is the time that i must decide which Router i buy...
    i think it will be the WRT54GL because it is round about 10 Euros cheaper...

    I got the WRT54GS v1
    and tested a WRT54GS v4

    I can say the WRT54GS v4 cames with a firmware version 1.x
    while the v1-v3 is at 4.x

    I guess the v4 is not running Linux anymore since I can't flash it with a third party firmware like HyperWRT, DD-WRT, Sveasoft.

    That v4 thing went directly back to the store. Totally unstable and sh*t.

    Better get GS v1-v3 or G v1-v4

    The GS v4 still runs Linux. It is hardware-identical to the G v4. I have both running DD-WRT v23.

    The GS v4 still runs Linux and can use the third party firmware. If you want to use HyperWRT then you have to flash it with DD-WRT first.

    What is your question? If it is the same one from the start of the thread then it makes no difference which one you buy.. they are the exact same piece of hardware. You can use either the G or the GS or the GL firmware on them. Personally between the two I'd get the GL since it is newer.. but again it doesn't make much difference. If you were asking between a GS v3 or a GL then I'd say definately get the GS v3. Since you have already bought the GL then I'll say that was a good choice.

    like my topic says

    WRT54GL or wrt54gs v4

    there are little differences ;)

    but it seems that this little differences are to little so they aren't no more differences :) [is that english?]

    and after some people saw wrt54gs v5s it is better to buy a WRT54GL :)
