i just bought a WRT54G v5 router and haven't use it yet, i was wondering what should i do now, should i use the router and if everything goes right just let it that way or should i prepare myself to upgrade the firmware with the last linksys firmware (1.00.9 which some say it drops connection: http://www.linksysinfo.org/forums/showthread.php?t=46911 ) or the v 1.00.6 or better use a 3rd party firmware like DD-WRT.

i don't want to spend a lot of time upgrading firmwares but i don't want to use some that can be improved by another one.

    what do you think?

The latest firmware of V5 has all the fix for the know issue about the device itself.

AFAIK the latest firmware from linksys is the 1.00.9, is it?

in the link provided with my first post in this thread we can read this:

"Firmware release 1.00.9 may correct some issues however it created the router to lock up the wan access through the router, effectively stopping all internet access."

    is this true or not?.
