I'm using the TomatoVPN mod to bridge two LANs over tun. I was wondering if allowing multicast, which is disabled by default, would help in making the VPN more efficient, or have the opposite effect. Also, are there any non-VPN related risks/trouble I could run into? Thanks
If you aren't doing anything requiring multicast (iTunes library sharing comes to mind), you don't need to allow it. In general, most multicast applications will limit themselves to the local LAN segment anyway and will not route across subnets (unless all machines involved have a direct presence on both segments). In short: It won't do a thing. Rodney
