Will we ever see a VPN server in a future release?

Is there any possibility that there we will see a VPN server feature in a future release of HyperWRT such as in Alchemy. Very cool feature but the Alchemy firmware is too buggy for my taste. Love the HyperWRT though.

    Thanks, RS

Probably not in my releases, but everyone may use my sources and create their own firmware with more packages and features 8)

1.4 will contain the ability for add-on packages to be downloaded and installed automatically to the router. I suspect that someone will take the batbox packages for telnet and vpnd and make a package out of them. I plan to make a package out of the dropbear sshd daemon.

OK, Dumb question, what does having a VPN server in the router mean?. I have a 54GS with HypertWRT 1.3, I've setup a VPN server on my computer in Egypt, and was able to connect to VPN from my brother's computer in the USA, albeit very slowly.

Does having a server in the router mean I wont need to have VPN setup on the XP machine?. is there an advantage to it?.

Yes, the advantage is you don't have to have a server set up on your network and it also limits unnecessary traffic on your network. The router does all the validating. Many time it is also faster and you can make multiple WANs faster by going router to router and it's easier to set up and keep up.
