Hi! The Linksys WIP320 phone is a Skype phone... but it is reasonably cheap compared to normal SIP phones. Now, interestingly enough, the firmware for that WIP320 phone is GPL... and downloadable on Linksys' web site : ftp://ftp.linksys.com/opensourcecode/wip320/1.1.0.16/wip320_v1.1.0.16.zip Question... anybody heard of, or planning to work on, modifying that firmware to include a proper SIP client? That would probably make that phone the cheapest SIP phone on the market. Add to it a small web browser to authenticate on hotspots and you have a killer. So... anybody interested? Gilles.
Should be possible, it seems to have been done for the SMC skype wifi phone:- http://spritesmods.com/?art=wskpsip&f=had
I am going to tag this post. Here's to hoping someone smarter then myself, will release a hacked firmware for our wip320's. Hopefully with a mini web browser.
I have the linksys WIP320 and have just taken a quick peek at the source code. It's built upon the Microwindows system, which is now called Nano-X. It's a really tiny window manager which implements both the Win32 and the X-Windows API. Furthermore it uses the ARM platform to program its environment. (correct me if I'm wrong) That's as far as I got in 15min. It must be possible to hack this firmware, however I don't quite know where to start, not being familiar with firmware hacking. But I do want to help wherever possible!
I have a WIP320 also and would love to see a hack for it. I don't know anything about hacking one, but I'd be willing to learn or help if someone could show me how.
