Wireless channels intermittent with WRT54G V5

Discussion in 'Cisco/Linksys Wireless Routers' started by computerprolv, Sep 17, 2006.

  1. I am using WRT54G V5 with latest stock firmware (1.0.0.9) and using default wireless channel 6 (in mixed mode) works fine connecting to 3 different laptops. I noticed that several neighbor's wireless networks are also using channel 6, so I wanted to see if channel interference might be causing slow wireless throughput at various times( throughput drops from about 24Mpbs to about 10Mbps using G connections).

On the WRT54G, I tried channels 1 and also 11, and rebooted the router after making the change. Both channels seem to be transmitting intermittently because the laptops, which are 8 feet from the router, connect sometimes and then disconnect. Watching the Netstumbler utility showed that the SSID would appear for a few seconds and then disappear during the continuous scan of all available networks.

I tried another brand new WRT54G V5 with the same firmware revision and it behaves the same way. With V4 and earlier versions, these other channels worked fine just like channel 6.

Appreciate any help or suggestions. TIA.
