wireless connections very bad

Over the weekend I switched to tomato 1.27. This is a first-time install for me. Everything seems to work, but i noticed a significant decline in wireless performance over the default firmware.

I ran Wireshark from my (wireless) laptop, created network traffic by using a browser and googling a few things. The wireshark trace shows that I'm getting errors about every 4th message. Most of the errors are "tcp out-of-order". followed closely in error count and frequency by "tcp duplicate ACK".

I can understand these messages cropping up once in a while, but every 4th entry in a capture with Wireshark seems excessive.

Second: There are multiple wireless clients (4 of them) on the network. Any time I try to SCP a file from one wireless box to another, the copy inevitably stalls. Most of the time it never recovers.

I'm not really sure where to begin looking. I didn't have this issue prior to shifting to Tomato, and I'm guessing it has something to do with a lack of understanding on my part. FYI, all boxes on the network are linux.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

    Many thanks!

    Need more info

    I have a few ideas:

    1) Did you completely erase nvram and re-configure from scratch? You should consider this a *mandatory* step. I do this *all* the time to be safe.

    2) What version router are you using? (i.e., is it 'ND' capable)

I too had issues with with wireless performance using standard Tomato. I only got good wireless performance by using Victek's mods. I use his 'ND' build, which has even newer drivers than the normal 'ND' build that Jon puts out. If your router is ND capable, then I would definitely try Victek's ND build (1.25.8515.2 ND RAF: similar to that name).

I hear Teddy Bear's mod is good too, though I've never used it.
