Is there one preferred over the other when it comes to either TKIP or AES
for the WPA setting? What about the dual setting (TKIP&AES)?

IE - Is one faster/better/more secure?

    What do the gurus think?

    AES is better.

WPA/TKIP has been broken. Not seriously enough such that you should redo your entire network if you're already using it; but yes seriously enough that you should not use it if starting from scratch.

TKIP was initially included only to be compatible with WEP. This turned out to be a big mistake. Don't do it.

Could using TKIP be a cause for WAN disconnects?

I have 2 separate WAN setups I am working with,(different facilities) and I get WAN disconnects (which may be a DSL problem) on the one which is set to TKIP. The other WAN (DSL connection) stays up for days at a time and it is set to AES. I was just curious. I have changed the former one (problem child) to AES to see if somehow this solves my WAN disconnects, which is probably a long shot! I have also contacted my ISP to have them do a thorough line check to help troubleshoot my disconnects.

    Thanks for the info!

I doubt that TKIP is the cause. But who knows.
