Wireless-G Adsl Gateway problem with VPN in windows XP

Hiyah chaps, I've been trying unsuccessfully for a few days to get a VPN host to work on my installation of windows XP.

I'm running windows XP professional. Using the network wizard to setup a VPN host by pretty standard proceedure. Making an account for the client and waiting for a connect.

I use a Linksys WAG56G Wireless-G Adsl Gateway. I've got an internal IP and an internet-facing IP. And I want people to be able to connect to the VPN host in windows by using the internet-facing IP I give them and the user/name password.

I've played with the options in the Wireless-G router and have turned on the simple DMZ option and loaded the correct internal IP but no dice. It doesn't allow incoming connections.

All of these produce the error message:

Error 800: Unable to establish VPN connection. The VPN server may be unreachable. or security parameters may not be configured correctly.

I must admit the setup options for the router do look really complicated and confusing and I am out of my depth with all the configuration options but is there a simple step by step guide to making a straightforward VPN host possible using a default windows VPN host and this router?

Can anyone suggest why I might be having problems with this?

And can anyone who has successfully used this product to host a VPN connection let me know how they are setting up the options and configurations perhaps?

Anyway, thanks in advance for any help.

    Andy.
