I just installed my WRT54G. It works great (after a few hours ;) with WPA-TKIP.
However transferring files in my LAN never gets above 8 Mbit/s.
    The signal is good: 98%
I tried without any security enabled but I still can't get abovr 8 Mbit/s. Is this normal for wireless devices?

    General answer for all wireless...

the signal *strength* can be good, but if the *quality* of the link is bad it won't work well...

have a look using retina eEye (available from links page) and see if you have lots of interference on your good signal, as this will affect the quality. It might be worth changing channels as well.

It's worth checking that the router is not stuck in B-only mode, because 8Mb is typical for the 11Mb 802.11b service.

    good luck
