Wireless speed - DD-WRT vs. ASUS/Oleg's FW

    hi ppl
being a long time WRT54G user, I decided it was time to switch to something better while still being able to run DD-WRT.

As some of you may know, the WL-500GX from ASUS has a custom FW made by Oleg. It adds some nice features and so on. But the main thing is wireless speed. Using OLEG's FW, my wireless transfers on the WL-500GX were around 2MB/s during day, and 2,5MB/s at night - this on a 1km link!!!

So I uploaded the latest DD-WRT v.23 from 9/11/2005, set the SAME settings and benched using a FTP transfer, but I only get ~1 MB/s now during night and day.

How is it that DD-WRT has 50% less transfer rate than the ASUS (or Oleg's modded) FW? (but 100% more features :) )

BrainSlayer, maybe you could use the wireless/ethernet driver from ASUS in DD-WRT?

In my experience using OpenWRT gives even better wireless speeds on an ASUS WL-500G Deluxe than using Olegs firmware.

And since Brain is using OpenWRT as base for dd-wrt 0.23, my guess is that he is using the drivers included in OpenWRT, and hence that it is not solely a driver issue...

I changed my antennas from Vertical polarity to Horizontal.. and guess what. Speeds of up to 2,7MB/s on a ~1km link, one AP set to 14mW (15dB antenna) and the other to only 4mW (24dB Antenna).

Of course only with ASUS/Oleg's FW, DD-WRT is still around 1,2MB/s :(
