okay, here is my basic problem... i'm running a wrt54gs with thibor 14 firmware... my nic is a wmp54gs and they are both in the same room... i have several laptops that can see the ssid of my network and can connect without a problem... the problem is that the machine with the wmp54gs in it can't see my ssid and it can't see any ssid... now, the wmp54gs connects to my network and it even says so, but when i click on the wireless network icon in the systray and the wireless network dialogue come up, it shows nothing... not from my ssid or even from my neighbors 5 ssid's that i can see on my laptops as we speak...

now, i figure that WZC is broken in some way... i'm not sure how or why, but whenever i go to enter in a prefered network name (my network ssid name) and i hit advanced or apply, it kicks me out of the screen with a gpf... any ideas on what it could be...? i've never seen this before... i thought it was the nick, so i replaced it with a brand new wmp54gs and i still have the same problem... so now i'm guessing it's related to WZC... so in the mean time i'm not using WZC and instead am using the linksys software for the nic to control the nic... but it's a memory hog and i'd like to go back to the WZC... just a little help would be appreciated... thanks...

If you installed, the Linksys client software it disables WZC service. You can have either WZC manage your wireless WMP54GS. Got to the Control Panel and select Adminstrative Tools and Select Services select Windows Zero Configuration and right click Properties and you should see it set to manual and that it is stopped.

Go back to the Control Panel and select Add and Remove Programs. You should see that the Linksys Wireless Client is installed.

You can start the Linksys Client Software and have it scan for wireless networks and manage the WMP54GS or you can remove the Client Software and, when prompted install the device driver on the CD that came with the WMP54GS. You should start the WZC service and have it start automatically. Then you can use WZC scan for wireless networks. Depending on the encryption you are using, such as WPA or WPA2, ypu will have to install SP2 and some hotfixes.

uh, maybe you don't fully understand the situation... i used WZC for over a year with the wmp54gs and up until a couple of weeks ago, the ability to see my ssid or any ssid has not worked... even though, i can connect to the wrt54gs and my ssid and i can see that i am connected by my wireless icon in the systray... i can also verify that i can see my ssid and other ssid's with my laptops... i just can't see any ssid with this computer using this nic... i'm running xp sp2 for a long time now and have been able to see ssid's up until a couple of weeks ago and now nothing...

also, what i've tried to do is go into the prefered network dialogue, enter in my ssid and hit apply... upon doing that, i get a gpf about a dll (forgot which one at the moment) faulting... so i am unable to even enter in my ssid as a prefered ssid without causing this error... i've also tried entering in any name in the prefered network dialogue and hit apply and i get the same error...

now at this point, i've disabled WZC as a service and installed the linksys nic client software and that seems to be going okay... sometimes the monitor shuts off for some unknown reason so i have to stop it in the task manager and then run it again to get it working... outside of that, i really need to know why my WZC is failing, if that's what it is and i need to know why i can't see any ssid's including my own...

hopefully that defines my problem for you...
