WMP54GS causing crashes, restarts WEIRD

Discussion in 'Networking Issues' started by imnotdriving82, Aug 30, 2005.

  1. I have a WMP54GS installed, talking to a WRT54GS router. The router works just fine, but if the download speeds exceed anything beyond web browsing, the computer simply restarts a minute or so into the download.

I know this is an issue with the wireless adapter because this does not happen when i am hard wired to the router via my on-board ethernet.

As an example... i have been testing possible solutions by downloading the standalone service pack 2 execuatble from microsoft. Reason being, my download speeds exceed 1000 kb/s at times when downloading from that server. If i am using wireless, the computer restarts a minute into the download. If i am hard wired, the download completes with no issues. It should also be notes that on rare occasion instead of rebooting, i will get the blue screen instructing me to "contact your hardware vendor"

    Here are my system specs:

P4 3.4 on an Abit VT7 MoBo (VIA PT880 Chipset)
    1G RAM (Micron)
Only cards installed are Video (ATI Radeon X700 AGP) and WMP54GS.

    All drivers/windows up to date

Windows reports no conflicts, IRQ is 18 for the adapter (Windows Dynamic)

If there are any error codes on the blue screen I'd try googling them. Also look for errors in the event log. The only other suggestion I can think of is to try moving the card to a different PCI slot if you have one available.

    Good luck.
