wpa between 1.25 and 1.27

Hi, I tried to connect an WRT54GL 1.25 AP with an WRT54GL 1.27 wireless ethernet bridge. WEP 128 is the highest security that works. Couldt it be there are some troubles or do I have to find the problem in bad connection with -88dbm and -95 noise (will correct antennas up to -78dbm but tonight..)? Thanks for answering.

For what it's worth, I'm typing this message through a WRT54G-TM 1.27 wireless ethernet bridge that is going through an asus WL500GPv2 running v1.25.8515 RAF ND USB Thor MOD with WPA PSK+AES security with no issues. If you're saying your RSSI is -88dbm then that seems weak, based on my personal history I don't think I'd get a link here with that signal.

The signal seems very weak, that is probably why you can't connect. Try pinging one router from the other, and see how many packets are dropped.

I would also recommend you use the same firmware version on both routers. Settings, software versions, or drivers could have been changed in updated versions of the firmware, which could cause problems.

as I sad, they get no connection (layer 1) so I can not ping (layer 3)...

but is there a reason why they can't connect on weak signals with wpa but with wep or without security?

Usually when I see weird stuff like that, first thing I suspect, or want to confirm, is that when you flashed to Tomato from whatever other firmware, did you reset the nvram as recommended in the official Tomato FAQ? My understanding is that you shouldn't need to do this when upgrading from one version to another. Just my standard PITA question to assure this fundamental step is covered before spending a lot of time diagnosing further.

yes, this should be done (I did it 2 times or more, maybe my time runs to fast ), but nobody is perfect :) I will put the (external) antenna in the right direction and will see what happens. this I have to do so or so. then I will do a 30-30-30 again and a Restore nvram (normal) and (thorough). and then, if nothing helps, then I return to 1.25, because the router with 1.25 is well configured (vlan and stuf like that).

I guess my 30-30-30 was not clear and I drop a brick (do you say that for "Fettnäpchen" )

Thanks for that at this time

Maybe WPA negotiation is more complex and can't complete it over the weak link? I really don't know. If you can't ping, really nothing should work. Thinking you need to look at antenna improvements or router location, improvements along those lines that will improve the signal.

So I got time to do something. I used nvram deleting in the gui but nothing. wireless client works with wpa - wireless client bridge does not (with wpa).

So I have a new router in the network and one more subnet.

    thanks to you helpers
