    Hi I have a WRT54G

I have had my network set up for a time with wpa and all was mostly ok (although the network was dropped from time to time)

However I need to switch to WEP for a time and my windows boxes really don't like it.

They say im disconnected when im not and drop the connection very frequently

    Please help

Check to see if the WPA2 Microsoft\t Hot Fix KB893357 is installed under Add Remove Programs in the Control Panel. If it is installed remove it if you are using WEP, it has been known to cause problems with WEP encryption. You will have to reinstall, when you are using WPA.

Also, might want to make sure that your MTA is set to manual and set the size to 1400 or 1200 (1200 is the safest bet). The default is normally 1500.

:thumb: Thanks for the help guys, its really nice to have been answered so quickly.

I have solved the problem and more! All the computers on the network I manage were set to let windows manage the wlan's... big mistake.

Just setting them all to use the manafacturers utilities sorted it all out - the network is NEVER dropped now by anyone (wpa or wep) I actually thought before that wlans were just temperamental!

Also explains why my linux box never dropped.

    anyway thanks again
