wpa2 kills upnp

For whatever reason whenever I use wpa2-psk, upnp will stop working after about 2-4 minutes. I know it stops working because the "internet connection" in network connections will disappear, but if I reboot it will appear again but will eventually stop working again and disappear. I'm sure it has something to do with wpa2 because if I switch to wpa upnp works fine, plus my wired connection also works fine since its not using wpa2.

This bug is not just in hyperwrt, I tried dd-wrt and the official linksys firmware and they do the same. I'm just posting it here because I use the hyperwrt thibor14 build and was hoping someone could help fix this issue.

    Thank You

wpa2 does not kill upnp, whatever you are using on your network is killing upnp, or the configuration of your router. i am happily using wpa2 with wds and wireless clients on my network and wpa is thrumming along quite happily. you could try unticking filter internet NAT Redirection in the firewall page, or maybe disabling SES as that can upset UPnP. the one thing i can definitively state though, is that it isn't being caused by WPA2

Well I dont have filter nat redirection on, but I haven't tried disabling SES so i'll try that. I just find it odd though that as soon as I switch back to wpa2 upnp stops working again. It worked fine with my old dlink router so I'm sure its not a problem with windows.

when you switch back to wpa, the router is stopping and then starting a lot of services, that is why you suddenly see the igd appear

I understand what you mean, but with wpa the igd will never disappear and upnp keeps working fine. I just switched back to wpa2 after turning off ses and the igd disappeared again after about 3 minutes, so im back on wpa again. I know this problem seems odd because I can't understand either why wpa2 would affect upnp, but it is for some reason.

is upnp still present in the process list?

When I use wpa2, no im not seeing it. It must not be anyways because when I try to use a program that supports upnp like utorrent I get a NAT error or something.

no, by process list i meant doing "ps" on the routers' command line to see if upnp has died or if your pc is not allowing upnp traffic whilst in wpa2 mode

I checked the process list from the command line and its still listed in there even when the internet gateway device has disappeared.

I also found this thread (http://www.hyperwrt.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=1158) at the hyperwrt.org forums and this person is having the same problem i'm having. Someone also mentions towards the end of the thread that wpa2 causes the issue.

then upnp hasn't died, your machine is not receiving the igd broadcast messages for whatever reason, perhaps wpa2 on your machine is the cause. i use wpa2 in my home network though, and upnp's igd is present at all times so i can say with some certainty that the wpa2 on the router isn't at fault. you could maybe check for an updated device driver for your machine.

Well the thing that confuses me is wpa2 and upnp worked fine together with my old router. Maybe my wireless network adapter just doesn't work well with the WRT54G. Thanks anyways though for trying to help.
