My WPC54GX does not want to connect to channel 6. I have no idea why. It connects to every channel fine, but not channel 6 no matter what router, isp, whatever (even if theres just 1 router with its basic out of box settings).

    Some Useful Info:
I have Windows XP Home SP2 Running on a Compaq Presario 2100 (about 1 1/2 years old). AMD Athlon XP-M 2800+ (2.12 Ghz) CPU with 512MB of RAM.

    Current Firmware/Driver versions of hardware.
    WPC54GX Driver Version is 1.5.0.86 (April 13th 05) Latest I think

    Help would be appreciated!!!!

    THANX!, Quickster357

The latest version of the driver is 1.4.6.52 dated May 5, 2005. There may be another wireless access point on channel 6, check with a site survey. What router are you using and are you using the Wireless Network Monitor?

First my card isn't powerful enough to detect a lot of APs, not like integrated. Example: My WPC54GX can pick up 2 to 3 APs and my friends integrated wireless laptop can pick up 5 or 6 APs at his apartment. There are a few routers that I've tried to connect to that were on channel 6. My friend's WRT54G V1 I believe, then he got a new one when he moved since that was his brothers...the V4 or V5 is the one he got (he changed his channel, but I haven't been over there since he bought his new one). I don't know what Version, but still didn't get a connection. Then my other friend's WCG200 Gateway is on channel 6 because its the best option for his household, but when I go over I can't get a signal even right next to it, but his eMachines (integrated wireless) laptop can go all over the place and same with my one other friends iBook (integrated wirless + Bluetooth (lucky dog :( )). As to your final question, yes. I use both the windows network finder and Linksys Wireless Network Monitor (WZC is then off ofcourse) to see if I could connect to channel 6, but no luck. Then I recently downloaded Network Stumbler (yesterday), but I haven't tried it yet.

Linksys Download site for WPC54GX is wrong

There is an error/feature on the driver download site for the wpc54gx. The newest driver is the 04/13/2005, 1.5.0.86 If you click on either links Driver or Driver Version Info you will get 2 different versions. The version info does not come up but it has the newest driver. Ever since linksys changed/updated the web server I have been finding several errors, bad links, ect. Actual in response to the guy that said the WPC54GX is weak is not correct. It has more to do with the compatibility and optimized for the GX router. The WRT54GX and the WPC54GX are a really kick @$$ pair.
