just wondering if someone can point me into the write diirection, I have a WRK54G it keeps going down after hours or days. I have to reset, I looked for firmware but It didnt help. I am just an average user with this I had it for over a year now and probably have about 30 days use of it. From what I read else where I think this unit/series was a bad choice, Stumbled and found this site ,hope I can change it from a paper wieght back to it proper use .

well the WRK54G is the bastard child of the WRT54G with the 1 antenna and limited firmware support. When you have to reset it, are you not getting connected to the network? or are you connected to the network but unable to get online

I wouldnt be able to connect to the internet with my laptop that had the wireless card that came with the unit and my desktop would also loose the connection that was plugged into the router on it. I would have to start over from the beginning. Thats whats remember, I havent used it for quite a long time.

ok so you couldnt get online, but when this happens are you able to still ping the router or use the local network (if you use file/printer sharing)

No I never tried to do file sharing, so I cant tell you that. And I never tried to ping the router(I dont know/never tried, all new to me) Just curious how other people with this unit are? if they to are having problems.

What am I in for jgutz20??????????????

i was just trying to troubleshoot to where the problem actually is, as far as what your in for? i'd get out sooner than later especially if its bugging you! theres quite a few different posts on what routers we all recommend and why so do som research if you decide to do that.

when your connected to the router, sign in to the web config and goto the status page, make sure you do or do not have an external IP address... when power cycling turn on the dsl/cable modem and let it start completely, then plug in the WRK

not to worry... check out with linksys techsupport for a beta of WRK54G. The version is 1.58.00 (yeah, its a little bit lower version than the current) but it is known to resolve the freq. d/c issues.

report back with ur observations so that lets make life better for others.

and yeah.. dont contact email support... they aint aware of such a f/w... probably check with voice and chat.

I was unable to find 1.58.00 so I still have 1.58.03, tried to find it but no luck. and I guess I know the answer to this but... There isnt any other firmware I could put on it, or experiment with(any ideas)?
Its really no good to me now.

Is the version you have posted for the UK? If so, thanks a bunch as I have constantly been disconnecting and it should fix it :)
